The only modification that will result in significant horsepower gain is forced induction (supercharger or turbocharger) or nitrous. IHE modifications will change the sound, cosmetics and weight of the car, but not net much in terms of power. Some owners report approximately a 5 HP improvement. Considering the cost of these systems, only do them if you like the sound or looks.

The Mugen exhaust that I added to my car allowed me to lose 25 pounds from the rear. That, plus the improved exhaust note, were the reason I did the swap. The Mugen headers are reported to give some small gains (a few HP) in the midrange.

expensive, expensive, expensive in my opinion. Theyre great products but why not save up like 2000 more and dump it in to a supercharger. I mean i had second thoughts. Spent 1100 brand new on a toda header, another 1100 on a brand new jic exhaust, 250 for an injen cai, i mean had i saved up 2000 more that coulda been a supercharger

Unless you want to stay NA for various reasons.

If going NA, I'd definitely go Mugen, Amuse, or maybe even Fujitsubo, Spoon, Toda.

Single Ti Exhaust, a TRUE CAI like AEM, Injen or the K&N and VAFC and some tuning will net you some respectable numbers. i know this will spur something but from what Ive read on various posts and dyno sheets 8-10hp from single exhaust, 8-12hp with the cai and the tuned Vfac will add another 10-20 plus you can engage the Vtec a little earlier. But from others that have the same setup or so seems like 20-30hp all together. The HP increase will be spread out in various places on the powerband so its not like your gaining that HP throughout. IMHO, ditch the idea of headers and get the VAFC II and some tuning and dyno time. Oh yea, albeit its not a basic mod but a change of gears will do wonders too.

first time i had this car during summer.

My first mod will be a CAI. Althought there is no horsepower gain, there is LESS LOST HP due to heatsoak. Driving it in the summer is enough to justify it for me. The bogging is really getting to me.

I'm looking at the eBay Spoon Style Intake. $100, but shipping sucks $70 to hawaii. That is getting close to getting an AEM, which might even give you some minor hp gains.

K&N has a decent intake if CAI hydolock issues worry you. Here is a link to their dyno sheet. http://www.kandn.com/dynocharts/57-3514.jpg

By the time you spend all of your money on the fancy JDM I\H\E you will have spent a large portion of what a supercharger will run you. The best I've seen with bolt-ons (I\H\E & VAFC) was about a +10hp increase, which costs you about $1500-$1700.

no turbo > supercharger, HOWEVER... turbo set up costs ALOT more to get things running right. Unless I get a new job and another car, ill be going SC. A couple people on here have dynoed AEM CAI and its a fact you gain more with them than any other CAI. People favor alot of the other intakes because of the slim risk of hydrolock (dpending on location). Same with the exhaust, single produce more than duals. The exhaust just boils down to looks versus power. Which for me... if i spend money on an exhaust its damn for sure going to be for power, and not just 2-3 hp either. As i said before, with that particular setup, (which ill back the number down some) and VAFC tuned no less than 15 probably not more than 20 gained.
