Noise question, Injectors?
I have a quick question, I had a thread about this a long time ago and we came to no real conclusion.
I have this slight ticking noise that increases with RPMS and does not become noticeable until about 3000 RPMS and really is not present at idle. If it is there at idle, its so faint that it sounds like a different noise. It is a fast ticking noise, and its always there its not the kind of thing that comes and goes. I have strugged several times to get others to hear it b/c it bothers me, but its hard to get anyone to hear it. I've had some people stick their heads under the hood and tell me they hear nothing even when its totally obvious to me. I've taken it to the dealer once and the service guy said he heard nothing and I've taken it to local meets and had two other owners take it for a drive and they say they hear it, but it does not sound concerning.
I have never over-reved the car and I have owned it since it had 2,373 miles on it. It's an 04 AP2 for what that is worth. I'm only slightly concerned b/c of the recent thread about over-reving where several members said a previous owner could cause damage that would not pop up until later. I've been driving the car daily for a few months now and in over 5,000 miles it has never had a problem, so I'm assuming if the ticking noise was something bad that it would have surfaced performance wise by now? It still runs like a champ. I had somene rev the car today and hold the revs between 3k and 4k and I used the screw driver test all around the engine bay. It does not sound like its coming from the head itself as it is easier to hear from the drive side of the car than it is the passanger side. This makes me think it might just be injector noise? You cannot hear the noise at higher speeds, once you get into VTEC or even close to it (5k+) you absoluetly cannot hear it. Even on the highway it's not really audible even if crusing in 5th or 6th. I do notice its easier to hear with the top up though, I assume because the noise is amplified in the cabin.
Several other S2000's owners have posted the same thing I do, that it is MOST OBVIOUS when driving next to a truck or a wall that can reflect the sound back. It's hard to hear at other times but if I'm next to a reflective object it is very easy to hear and it is not variable, its always there. I got under the car while he was reving it up and it does seem like it is easier to hear under the car than on top. If it is noisy injectors, does it make sense that you could hear it better when next to an object? It does not seem to matter which side the object is on either.
Other than that, I love this car. I just am going nuts trying to figure this out for a few months when most otheer ppl claim they don't hear it (or at least nothing abnormal).
Thanks in advance and God's blessings,
