Default noise from under hood please help!

i have a weird metal rattling sound comming from under the hood. its not from the engine or anything but the sound appears everytime i downshift and let the engine slow my car down or when im in a higher gear than i should be and step on the gas. it sounds like a metal plate hitting against another metal surface. kind of like a loose metal sheet hitting on something caused by the engine movement back and forth? only happens when in gear. just sounds like a vibrating piece of sheet metal. someone please help me. its really annoying. thank you for all your help.

You better hope it's not this:
http://forums.s2ki.com/forums/showthread.p...=clanking+sound

Basically, a clanking sound led to a cylinder failure, and the whole block had to be replaced.

Move this thread to Under The Hood. You'll get more expertise help there.

I have a metallic buzz/rattle for 3sec each time I upshift from 1-2,2-3, and 3-4.... 4-5 and 5-6 don't do it, or at least I don't notice it. Doesn't sound harmful, and yes I do have the clutch buzz fixed.

well i know its not the cylinder failure because miine only does it when i dont step on the gas and when im in second third gear around 2500 to 3500. when i rev in neutral it sounds normal. its only when i leave my car in gear and let the engine slow me down the car makes a mettle rattle sound. when i step on the gas in that rpm range the sound dissapears. my car is an 01. please help. thank you for all your hlep you guys provided me so far. im feel alittle safe that its not the cylinder failure because the car sounds normal idle. please reply with more suggestions and things i can do. oh and also can oil level be anything to do with it?

in general, heat shields are always a good suspect in metallic buzzing issues.

This is JUST a heat shield rattling! Either on the header or on the catalytic converter.
My 02 does the exact same thing and my other hondas use to do it also... (those buzzing rice rockets they are)
Mine seems to become less noticable once everything heats up.
