Is this normal?

Default Is this normal?

I have had my S now for a little less than a month and it now has about 400 miles on it. I have never had a convertible before so I don't know if all of the noises I am hearing are normal for a convertible. Ever since day one when I'm driving top up I hear a tapping sound coming from the top, mostly from the rear passenger side. It sounds like metal tapping lightly against metal. I have not taken my car into the dealership yet I am waiting until I get through the 600 mile breakin period because I don't want a tech screwing up my engine. I live in Michigan and this noise seems to be worse on the colder days, but is this fixable or is it just something I will have to learn to live with. Also on another note my car has stalled 2 times in the last 10 days right after I started it? weird not something I would expect from a brand new car.

Take a drive in your car and look over to your right, at the passenger seatbelt buckle, this is probably the culprit. The vibrations of the road have the buckle tapping against the interior plastic.

Try flipping the buckle up towards the top. Or play the music louder, or VTEC more often!

Does the tapping get more rapid as you go faster?

Being that you live in Michigan, I'm going to assume your mornings are pretty chilly. Do you garage your S2000?

I had this happen to me twice when I left the car outside overnight during freezing temps. Not sure why it would happen, but I've learned to pay more attention in the morning before I start the car.

I insert the key and wait for the REV limiter to go all the way to 9 and then back. Also, if you listen closely, you can hear the fuel ignition start, then turn the key. It's never stalled again.

The tapping definitely sounds like metal on metal not tapping on plastic, the sound appears less after 50 mph. Also my car does stay in a garage.

Revn, last night I just found the source of my irritating rattle. It sounds very similar to yours. Try driving on a road that will make the rattle for you and carefuly reach over and grab the passenger seat adjustment lever, if it stops you might have the same prblem I did. After I finaly found this to be the source I looked under the seat to find that one side of the "locking theeth" weren't latching into place. I loosened all for mounting bolts and wiggled the seat around till it would latch correctly and re-tightened the bolts. This now allows the lever to fall into the correct location (also appy a bit of grease). So far (I hope) this has completly corrected this very irritating noise!

Good luck

I have that exact sound. I'm planning on taking it in and have them take a drive with me in the car and figure what's up. If they find a problem and able to fix it, i'll take it in and have them fix it while i'm there.

I noticed that I have it as well. Last night was the first time it made itself known and I have 450 miles on my car. Hopefully we can figure out what this is and solve the problem.
