Not much complaining about mechanical problems
hehe, ohhh boy lemme tell you a story . . .
It began in july of '99 when I put a deposit down . . .
anyway follow the links :

Im having a hell of a time with Honda, and its been that way since day ONE, I mean that, first day I got a flat and there were no SO-2's in the country, sidewall gash, not fixable, they looked at me funny.
except for one glimmer of hope - a place called Classic Honda in Orlando Fl, they were great, but I cant go there every time I have a problem (888 miles)
Im not the only one to hit a brick wall with service either.
On the other hand if you go get an '02 or newer you should be just fine - its a great car, just the customer support and service SUCKS! and I dont see any hope

I think that it must be a case-by-case situation. I've had my S2K for 9 months, and I haven't had any problems at all. On the other had, my '99 BMW 323is went to the dealers multiple times, as did my '95 325is. The BMWs, in my experience, seem to have many more chronic problems than the S2K. Folks in this formum drive the h*ll out of them, and perhaps rightly so. I have too, but other than a single 1-2 grid (perhaps my fault), I can't complain.
Even my '99 Tacoma has been to the dealers about 3 times for misc. stuff. I thought that Toyota pickups were unbreakable.
I guess that some are good and some are bad. But the reports in this formum only serve to make me aware of things that may go bad, but I'm so happy with my little car.
I just wish for better weather!

John,
I don't think the plastic window scratch problem can be attributed as an ownership problem. If the windows were designed properly, people would not have to buy Muz mats for the window well.

[B]There's probably a much better than average chance that you have a trouble free car being that it is a MY2002. Honda builds a GREAT car. There were some probems with the MY2000 and less in the 2001. Most of the problems people bring up are IMHO ownership problems. For example - the plastic rear window getting foggy and scratched (people just have to take care of the window better), not enough torque (they should have known that before they bought it), oil consumption mainly during break-in period (nothing that adding oil won't hurt), surprise spinning out of car (people have to learn to warm up the tires before driving the car hard). A lot of the problems stem because many don't know they have the closest thing to a race car made and HAVE to learn how to handle this car.

Well I have a Jetta now and I think we're comparing apples to oranges. The Jetta is highly contented and the S is almost completly de-contented.
I counted and the Jetta has 99 (actual) red led's in the interior denoting switch locations and positions. It has heated seats, thermostatic climate, memory seating and mirrors, rain sensing wipers, auto rearview dimming, a trip computer, a multi-speaker stereo and a passenger mirror that moves to reveal the curb when in reverse. The list goes on and on.
There is simply more chance that something will go wrong when there is more something. Given the low content of the S (whether or not you think decontenting is a feature or not) it has it's share of problems.

Two quotes I often hear in the school of Engineering:
Simplicity is the art of engineering
K.I.S.S (Keep it simple, stupid!)
IMO, while I do miss the heated seat on my Passat GLX, I would rather do without it in the name of weight reduction.

As with any car, the S2000 has it's share of small problems. Compared to most sports cars it is doing very well in the problem department.
That said, a common thread is that Honda service departments suck. It seems to be pretty much luck on finding a good one, and there is often disagreement over whether a deal is good or not. Another common theme is that most people with problems have found that Acura dealers service the S2000 just fine.
I've got no major issues with my MY2000, but I'm prepared to have some minor issues as time goes by because I'm driving it like a sports care

no competitive driving at all, here
Luis was rather commuting, I believe, twice.
thats 3 failed at the least, and then all the grind problems. Then the engine failures, but yes they are few comparatively speaking.

Odds are in your favor. Consider first that this web site only lists something like 7% of all the S2000 owners. The majority appear to be young and drive the car like hell (like abuse it). And, still it's a very small percentage that have reliability issues. There have been a few who, through no fault of them, have had problems but as I said, odds are really in your favor.
