Default Noticed some damage! :(

So I noticed some damage on my S2k today.. I have no idea when, or how this happened. It definitely wasn't there when I washed the car last wednesday (yea it got really dirty pretty fast). As you can see, something rubbed off the paint, and the plastic underneath got chewed up a bit and is rough. The paint around the edges is flaking up a tiny bit in a few places. I am trying to think what could have caused it.. its too high to be a curb and this location doesn't stick out at all (the tires stick out more.. check pic dmg3.jpg). Anyhow, what should I do to fix this? I don't want to paint the whole bumper. I was thinking sand the grooves out of the plastic and the flaking paint surrounding, then just get some touch up paint? Should I mask off the area and spray it on or just use a brush? Any advice would be appreciated. thanks

vtec,

I ran my front bumper up on a parking block and scarred it up pretty badly. I tried touching up with a brush and wasn't satisfied. Then I bought a custom mixed can of touch-up paint and clear coat. I messed it up even more. Ended up getting the whole front clip repainted for $250. Should have done that in the first place. The front bumper is not hard to take off. Often, car dealerships contract out small paint jobs to an independent painter. That's who I used and I got a professional job for an OK price. Good Luck.

If you don't want to spend as much money taking it to a bodyshop, you may want to try aerocolors. They are a mobile air brush chip repair company that specializes in touching up vehicles and I have seen the results on my neighbor's car and I couldn't tell it had been damaged in the first place.

thanks for the info.. I'll look into aerocolors.

The car will be cleaned tomorrow. I washed it last wednesday, and by friday it was very dirty again (rain, etc). Then I was away all weekend, and I work late during the week!

...or something hit you. That's awfully low for a parking lot scrape, but you never know.

The "right" way to fix it is to remove the bumper cover, sand out the damage, and paint the cover. You need a body shop. With the damage low and on the side like that they should be able to just spot in the color and blend around the corner. Not a big deal, but not cheap either.

Two weeks after I got my 02 Sebring I had some jerk back into my rear cover in a parking lot. I even parked away from the building off by myself just to avoid that sort of thing. Witnesses said he hit it, got out of his truck to inspect the damage, and then took off. I managed to track the guy down but he denied any knowledge. Jerk!

Anyway, it was minor damage and set me back $215 for the repair, but I get a huge discount at my shop. Yours might be a little more.

I had that happen on my rear bumper, found out it was from a street sweeper. The brush just touched my bumper and it pulled the paint right off.
