Default NTN TCT

I have a 2007 S2K with about 78k miles. It came with NTN TCT. I have no idea how long it’s been there. No issues or rattles. I’ve put in approximately 20k mi on it. Do I need to replace with a Billman TCT for a piece of mind ?

NTN is an OEM manufacturer on some cars (subaru). Large company in Japan.

"NTN Corporation is one of the most prominent manufacturers of bearings in Japan, second domestically only to NSK Ltd. The company is one of the largest exporters worldwide of friction-reducing products such as constant-velocity joints."
"NTN Corporation (hereafter NTN) has been marketing “Chain tensioners” globally since 1998"

OEM tensioner is priced almost identically:

There are TCTs on Amazon that are like $60. So I wouldn't say only $190.

More:

"If you are lucky, a tensioner manufatured by NTN is in the box. If so, it is the same as OEM Honda."

I would trust it while it's on your car for now. Like no emergency to replace it. ...but still grab an upgraded model like Billmans or Ballade when you can. OEM was prone to failure. I went through 3 or 4 before I got the ballade. That was 8 years ago. Since then it's been perfect. Ive heard nothing but good things about Billmans TCT as well. Just requires a core return. Does your NTN count as a core return? I dont know... ask Billman.

Exactly. NTN is OEM like Denso. Highest aftermaket parts quality you can get.
NTN, NSK, KOYO and NACHI are top quality ball bearing (and more) manufacturers from Japan. Buy with confidence.

The NTN may be of the same quality and design as OEM, which means it will fail just like the OEMs do. I would not jump to saying you should replace it, but it will eventually do what the OEMs do and at that point you should just get one from Billman
