I recently installed a counter-sunk shift knob. It reduces the height down by about 1 inch, but it feels more notchy when I shift compared to the OEM. Initially, I thought it was the tranny fluid so I just checked it this morning and it seemed to be right where it's supposed to be. Does anyone experience this issue?

it's probably just because you have less leverage now...the higher-sitting OEM knob allows you to have more leverage, so you don't have to pull so hard (granted a longer distance)...now with the counter sunk knob, you've shorted your throw distance, but increased the amount of force required to move it due to the reduction of leverage.

 

a lower and lighter knob will make your shifter feel more notchy.

 

a heavier titanium knob will fix your problem.

 

which countersunk knob did you get?

you are not going crazy and this is normal. I have the same feeling with my knob.

 

I keep telling myself this is a car forum and be nice, but this is almost too much to resist.



On the Ultralites they cut the shaft of the knob off quite a bit and then put back on the stock knob (you'd be surprised how long the shaft actually is). It gets VERY knotchy then.

A heavier knob will give you the momentum to overcome a lot of the knotchy feel, but what you are feeling is due totally to the shorter throw and heavier force required to make the same motion. You did not screw your transmission up at all.

 

Too much talk of shafts and knobs for me.
