Default OEM Hardtop

I may be getting a used OEM hardtop tomorrow and I don't know exactly what I should be taking off of the seller's car. Obviously the top, but what else? What's all the hardware I need for full installation and rear defroster capabilities?

Since I need this info for tomorrow morning, any quick help is appreciated.

To install an OEM hardtop, you need the hardtop and the installation kit. Depending on the year of his car, they have different install kits.

I don't know if you can just take it off. you probably need to call a honda dealership and find out exactly what is included in the installation kit if the sellers car is from the same year.

Good luck

You need both side catchers that are located just to the rear of both windows below the brushes. Also the wiring harness located behind the drivers seat in the roll hoop compartment below the roll hoop..

Thank you for all the replies thus far.

I have an AP2 (2005) and he has an AP1 (I don't know what year). I think if his AP1 is a 2002 or 2003 I am good in regards to the rear defroster extension cable and socket. If not I may need some parts.

I'll need:

-Side Brushes (Driver side and Passenger side)
-Side Catchers (Driver side [has defroster cable], Passenger side [just the catcher])
-Defroster Extension Cable with Socket

I don't think AP2's need new hardtop strikers, and the hardtop side latches should already be attached to his hardtop.

That's about an hours worth of searches on here.. Anyhow, I am going to check it out tomorrow so if I am missing anything PLEASE let me know.

If you have experience with AP1 --> AP2 hardtop installations let me know if I am wrong about anything.

Thanks!

You dont need new strikers. The stock ones will work just fine. Plus, it's a PITA trying to take the stock ones off.

The main things you need are the side cathers and defroster cable. You dont have to use the new side brushers but it's always nice to have newer parts.

I'm not sure if this applies on AP1's but on my AP2, I had to use a centerpunch and hammer to bend the metal on the side catcher. This had to be done in order for the catcher to be screwed in properly. That took me like a good hour for the driver and passenger side.

PM me with your email address early Sunday morning and I'll send you Honda's Acrobat PDF file for hard top installation - it shows everything you will need... almost, you will probably also need a little EPT sealant and some Shin Etsu grease to get rid of any squeaks & rattles.

I Love the hard top... even is SoCal

The EPT sealant is a foam like tape that the dealer will "work" into the sides of the latches on the convertible/hard top to stop them from rattling. See the link below:

Fixing Latch Rattles

I also used a couple of Zip ties to hold down the soft top latch hooks when the hard top is installed. Except for a little wind noise at speed, my hard top is nice and quiet.

Some dealers will not give you (or even sell) EPT sealant; they told me it was related to a Tech Service Bulletin and had to be installed by their techs. If you can't get a hold of any EPT sealant - just PM me with your address and I'll send you a few square inches in the mail for free.
