Default OEM Side Strakes

I know this topic has been discussed before but I'm trying to figure out if those oem side strakes are really benificial to the "aerodynamics" of the car. I love the way they look and there are two sets for sale on E-bay right now but I wanted to know if someone can point me in the right direction of how these actually improve performance. Oh mods, if this is in the wrong forum, sorry. TIA

don't think the side strakes have any significant performance value. they're strictly for looks. it all depends how much you really like the looks of it, cuz this requires you to drill some holes.

yeah i know you have to drill etc. but i keep reading that they "improve aerodynamic performance" yet no one can provide any real data. oh well at least they'll look good...if they can be had cheap. $459 retail is total rapage.

they probably provide as much performance as removing your front license plate.

I went through 3 sets (have to buy them both even if U just lose 1) on my MY00 after a 1.75" drop, the strakes wound up getting popped off by every little pothole and speed bump since they were the lowest point on the car. I would have just canned them but there was that enormous hole. Zippo for performance, just for looks. I give them 2 thumbs down.

Hey, I am having the same problem with my side strakes, and I am wondering if those front license tag plugs would work to fill the lower holes from the side strakes if I were to take them off... True you would see a little bump there, but they come prepainted to color match the car and they only cost like a couple dollars.

Since mine are damaged, that would be a lot cheaper than buying new side strakes!

Side Strakes are SO EASY TO FIX... but if you must take them off......I suppose the bumper plugs would work.. You would still see it....but better than the hole I guess.

Those front tag hole plugs fill 2 1/4" holes,
I think the hole for the side strake clip is 5/8" or so (Whatever the mm equivalent is) so I don't think they'd even have a large enough O.D. even if you could fit it somehow. Don't get me wrong, I like the way they look, and they are fairly easy to reattach IF you can find them after they fall off, (Which I never could). I did NOT get them for my 04 after living with them for 4 years on my 00.
