Default Oem Yellow?!?!?

ok heres the deal,
I have a MY01 pearl yellow s2k.

I was victim of a hit and run at a nearby parking lot... when I came out of the store it looked like an suv had run over the passenger side front corner of my car. The fender and the front bumper looked mangled. I decided to go through insurance b/c when I got the estimates there was no way I could afford the chunk of change right then. I would never put my car through the torture of having people see her damaged.

When I got the car back from the Insurance company (Progressive) they said that they had it all done and they said they even washed it for me and that they looked over the repairs and said everything is good to go.

Great, I was thinking, Progressive is goign to get excellents on the survey.

Low and behold I got outside and my baby was two different colors of yellow, the passenger side door was a lighter yellow than the side mirror. Its so bad that the side mirror on the passenger side now looks almost orange, the passenger side door color matched the fender(which was replaced) and the fender matched the bumper(which was also replaced). The passenger side part of the hood matches the fender most likely from color blending.

the bad part, the part where the bumper meets the drivers side fender there is a huge difference.

The passenger side of the car looks like it has more yellow in it versus the drivers side which now looks like it has more orange. In all actuality my roomate was like "it looks like they took a can of yellow metallic paint and spray painted your bumper" It seriously looks like they took some Krylon paint and sprayed it on there and buffed it.

1st excuse from insurance guy" oh there is a difference b/c of painting on metal and painting on plastic"
I called BS on this one

2nd excuse from insurance guy" the paint we put on is brand new paint versus the paint already on the car is 4 years old."
I say BS on this one as well...B/C after 4 years isnt the paint in the hot blistering Arizona sun supposed to make the paint less bright??

So what should I do???? after muttering profanties to myself he finally agreed to do whatever I wanted to do to make sure I was satisfied. Except to paint the whole car....

The more I look at it, the more I think they painted the bumper and fender the wrong yellow.

The paint code on the door says Y-52p...
Does anybody know the different yellows Honda made for the S2k???

PLEASE HELP ME!!!!!! OMG I"m seriously like what the hell should I do....

Joe

Man I'm sorry to hear about what happened, this type of stuff is what I fear about dreaming when I go to bed.

Did your insurance pick the place that did the job? If so, it's not surprising, they'll get work done at the cheapest place they can find and that usually means the quality of work is cheap as well.

I would ask that they redo the whole car since they've already proved that they can't do a competent job at matching paints. I would try to persuade the insurance company that this is the best route because doing anymore of this type of work will just result in another botched job and wasted money/effort.

Spa yellow is very hard to match because it is a tri color paint - but they should come closer than the way it sounds - as for plastic and metel excuse that's bs because the car looks perfect when it comes from the dealer. bring it back and ask them to fix it if you're unhappy

SPA yellow is VERY hard to match

Here's the scoop, as I just got my front lip painted by my parent's neighbour he explained this too me.

Most paints are a base coat and a clear coat. SPA yellow is different. It's a tri-coat. It has 2 base coats if you will and a clear coat.

The way it is painted is, a base yellow is sprayed on then a clearish tinty green is sprayed which I believe also contains the pearl. Then the clear is sprayed on. You cannot just take the paint code, grab a spray can and go to town. The mid-coat of green tint is to be applied by EYE!

Yup, that's right by EYE! So that means it's up to the painter to get it right. Most shops can't / won't / don't know how to do this. My lip was painted with a pearl, the guy didn't have my car to match with so he guessed and he was damn close.

Here's some info I posted on this before....

P.S. My body shop told me if I ever got a scratch to either have the entire car painted or at least half so you couldn't tell.

I hate the new yellow on the front end. Its too yellow and it looks like spray paint. either that or it looks like they ran out of paint to fully paint over the primer.
Would it be too much to ask them to re-paint the front bumper and fender over again to get a darker yellow to match the rest of the car?

They did a really good job of blending the paint down the passenger side but they didnt color match it too well...
I'm goign to request them to do the whole thing over again. ugh... the worst part is my gf is like "yea... i could have done better with my nail polish" this coming from a girl who doesnt really care much about cars.
