Just curious, what type of Oil do Stook owners use? I use Synthetic Mobile 1 (10w 30). Just wanted to know what the majority of owners are putting into their engines, and if they have had any problems.

I used non-synthetic Mobil 1 until 12,000 miles. I have been using Redline 5W-30 ever since. Next time, I be switching to Royal Purple synthetic.

My dealer recommended Mobil 1 synthetic. But synthetics should not be used before 6000 miles according to one of the FAQs on this website. I also have a question for anyone who might know - What is the magic additive that Honda puts in the break in oil? They say not to change it until 3750 miles which seems excessive to me. I would like to make my first oil change at 1200 - 1500 miles and add this additive to the new oil if I can find out what it is. My dealer is checking on this and will try to order it if he finds out what it is. Do any of you know?

I don't KNOW, but I've inferred from a number of threads that the magic substance is a molybdenum paste that Honda uses on bearings during assembly. The paste fills microscopic pits and scratches on the bearing surfaces and the rest dissolves into the oil and circulates in the engine (where I guess it finds other small spaces to fill).

I'd strongly recommend leaving the original oil in there at least until the severe-conditions 3750-mile oil change interval to make sure you get full benefit. Many of us were bothered by this long interval before the first oil change, but nobody has yet posted any convincing alternative.

I just started using Mobil 1 on my last oil change. Here's another question. The owners manual only recommends changing the filter every OTHER oil change. I change the filter every time I do an oil change because I always have on every car I've owned. Anyone following the manuals recommendation?
