Which oil to add during break-in period?
I know this subject has been discussed before and may be the answer is in the ownwers manual (but it is in the car downstairs....kind of long way for me to go anf get it.....also sometime advice here is more valuable than owners man.)
I have been warned to check oil during first 3000 miles. my question is if I find out that engine is using oil, if I should add(not replace) oil?If yes is there any reco. brand name/special type?

Any good quality 10W-30 oil (non-synthetic) is what you should be adding. Check the oil frequently because it will burn a fair amount of oil during the break-in period and beyond. The more time you spend at higher RPM's, the more oil you will consume.

Our cars are loaded at the factory with very special oil which, if diluted in any way, will cause the engine to fail and invalidate the warranty. Never, ever add any mineral based or synthetic oil to an F20C engine.
In fact, if you read the owners manual you will realize that our cars do not come with either a real dipstick or a real drain plug. There is a fake drain plug under the engine but it is welded on and doesn't do anything. Most of us have added X braces underneath to hide the stupid thing. The dipstick has "XXX" marks unlike most dipsticks which have dimples or little "o" marks. Those "XXX" marks are Japanese for "NEVER ADD OIL. You will void the warranty." An American version of the dipstick is available, in titanium, for $238.60 but has been backordered. None of us have seen it yet.
If you get advice from your dealer contrary to this post, don't believe it. Dealers don't know anything. They don't get paid fairly for warranty work. They'd rather rebuild or replace your F20C out of warranty than in warranty and so they are probably just trying to mislead you.
Also, stop babying your engine before 600 miles. The warning in the manual to avoid revving past 5,500 rpms before 600 miles was just put in by lawyers who write manuals to be sure you didn't bust a valve. Later in the manual it says that the factory warranty is for 36 months or 600 miles whichever comes first.
I've heard from someone on this board that you should break 'em in like you plan to drive them so I always revved past 10,500 rpm. If those four bars aren't flashing, give it more gas!
By the way, I understand how painful it can be to go downstairs to find the manual which is in the car every time you want to find out what grade oil to add. Nevermind the fact that adding oil is usually accomplished when in the vicinity of the car. I've already established that our cars are the exception and shouldn't ever have oil added and the manual is all wrong.
The thing that confuses me most about your thread is that you had to bump it to the top a day after you started it. I can't imagine not visiting my own S2000 at least once an hour, let alone once a day. How come, in the day from when you posted the thread until you bumped the thread to the top you didn't find enough energy to READ THE FINE MANUAL!

I can't believe I spent five minutes writing this when I could have done ANYTHING ELSE and spent the time better.
