Default Oil dip stick question

Anyone know how much oil is missing if the dip stick level is at the "low" mark? (Let's say when the engine has cooled down for about 3-5 minutes.)

Thanx

I put in almost a Qt from that point to get the level back up to "full". Its not so important to know exactly how much oil to add, as it is to make sure that the level does stay full. I just add a little, check, and repeat until I see the levels are high enough.

Best to let the S sit overnight then check the oil. You'll be suprised how much drains down during the night!
But, if you stick is at the low mark, I would only add 1/2 quart. Like wanabe said,

"much better to be a little underfilled than a little overfilled!!"

My $.02.....................

Baically, I am about halfway between the full mark and the low mark. I am checking my oil at every gas fill up (like the manual suggests). I wait a few minutes before checking it (again like the manual says).

Now my concern is...you guys sould like checking it when it is dead cold is the correct way. This is somewhat conflicting with the manual. Obviously, a hot engine is not the right point to check. Is a cold one? On my wifes Subaru, the dip stick varies by over 1/2 quart based on a warm engine and a cold engine.

The manual sounds like a warm engine is the way to check. I want to figure out how much I need to add to keep all nice and lubed. But I don't want to put in too much -- very bad.

What's everyone's opinion, practice, suggestion?

Thanx

At the 1/2 way mark on the dip stick, after the car has only been sitting a few minutes, I would only add 1/4 quart. Check it again the next morning after it has been sitting all night. I have found out that 1 quart is from Low mark to Full mark on the stick.
Don't worry about it being 1/4 to 1/2 quart low especially on a warm engine.
Also. I noticed that when I VTEC a lot, I tend to use oil.

When I check my oil, even after an oil change, my dispstick reads at the halfway mark. I'm not sure if you're really ever suppose to fill it all the way to the top. My Prelude is the same way.

MarkS2K,
Do you check when the engine is warm or cold?

The "books" are incorrect on the number of quarts to fill up the S2000. The book says 5.1 quart. Actually it takes 5.5 quarts to fill it back up, with a new filter.
This has been discussed here and I think it might be in the FAQ.

I check the oil when the car is cold. Usually in the morning, before it's even been started.
