Default oil question on new car

manual says change oil every 7500. extreme condition at 3750. both seems pretty high for me. also is that with regular oil? i really don't wnna use regular oil that long. second i know oil came with the car has additives. salesman told me change at 5000. i hear 3750. which one? i really don't wanna use oil that's all black. i rather spend more money and change oil before it gets really nasty.

Amsoil 10-30 atm, gave the best results in the oil journals. and will last at least 5k-7k miles. but is a bit pricey. if you like to change more often, go with mobile 1 its cheap and available most everywhere. IMHO

You've read the owner's manual, yet you can't figure out what it means. Which conditions applies to you and your car? The 7500 mile interval or the 3750 miles interval? Did you not see the part that says to NOT use synthetic till the car has at least 7500 miles on it?
I'm one who doesn't believe there were any "additives" put in the factory fill. It is high in "moly" but this is most likely due to the assembly lube that was used liberally during the manufacturing stage. If you are worried about losing this "additive" when you change out the oil too early, you can always put in a can of moly additive.
Black oil is merely a sign that your oil is working. If your oil never got dark, then you have to worry. Change the oil when YOUR interval comes up. Just keep adding oil if your engine uses a bit (the owner's manual also tells you what type of oil to use) and don't worry about it getting black. Black oil still works and protects.

Shoot, I'm confused as to whether or not I fall under severe or normal condition. At most, I'm stuck in stop and go traffic every now and then, but i also do a lot of driving in non congestion hours.

Worst case scenario:
Read both lists of conditions. Pay particular attention to the "severe" list of conditions. If ANY one of those applies to you, you have your answer. Very few owners would fall under the "normal" schedule. I can think of one that might ................ A travelling salesman who drives long distances where the car is shut off very few times per tank of gas.

You're most likely in "severe" conditions so just change to synthetic at 3750 exactly like the manual says.

The manual that came with the car says otherwise. It specifically says the synthetic is perfectly fine to use as long as you change it according severe or normal intervals and under severe conditions you change the oil every 3750 miles.

*waits for someone to post that poorly scanned article "from honda" claiming that you shouldn't change to synthetic until 10K*
