it/s been some time since I read about oilconsumption-experiences..... anybody having abnormal consumption ??

my consumption is dropping to 1 liter per3000km now
used to be 1 liter / 1000km
so it looks like it/s getting better but I still ave my doubts
Importer wants me towait till 10000 km are on the odometer
now showing 7000 km

I think he is right. Since consumption is decreasing and your engine is still too new to be fully broken in. You may have some consumption until 15K km.

I only have 1,000 miles on my '01, but I used 1.0 quart in those first 1,000 miles. Just topped it up, and I will continue to track usage.

Cdelena, I find "some oil" an understatement.
It/s more like drinking rather than using.
Any idea whether this may have effect on the catalyzer ?
I did put a claim already if the catalyzer would be unserviceable within an unreasonable period it might be due to the oilfumes passing it.

You are right, the consumption is higher than is comfortable, but since it is decreasing it is likely just a combination of a ring slow to seat and some high rpm use. I doubt that there would be any impact on the cat in these few miles.

martinymca, how would you say you have driven the car? I have about 800 miles and the oil appears fine ... although I only go above 6K about twice per trip. I've read some posts in the past where hard driving and oil consumption may be related.

My car showed no consumption in the first 550 miles. Then when I checked it again at 800 miles, it was down .5 qt. This I attributed to exploring the higher regions of the tach after the magic 600 mile mark. Oil consumption was very slow after that but I did add the other .5 qt at about 2000 miles. I then took the car to a driving school at thunderhill. After about 90 miles of driving with much of it above 6000 rpm, the oil was still on the full mark. I'm hoping the rings are now seated and the oil use will stop.

My car burned almost 2 quarts of oil in the first 5000 miles. Since that oil change, my oil consumption is what I consider normal, only requiring minimal topping off between oil changes.

I've used almost a quart in 2,000 miles.

I can tell you break-in was done very very cautiously,
nevertheless the oilconsumption is there.
To show how quickly it was burning the oil I took it for a ride to Germany (no speedlimit)... strange enough at topspeed it had not used a drop . speedometer 240 km/hr..
duration aprx 10/15 minutes.Just when I got back to my country (speedlimit 120 km/hr)it started using again.
I also drive to/fm my work only 15km one way, daily, so Vtec is done maybe once or twice a ride
