Default OMG - how can this happen in 25K miles (Cabin filter)

I bought my 01 last summer with 19K miles on it. The car was (and is) in show room condition. Interior, paint, engine compartment, you name it, it's perfect. I have many maintenance receipts, including a dealer oil change 300 miles before I got the car. Also of note is that the engine air filter looked clean and nearly new when I took delivery of the car.

Imagine my surprise when I decided to change out the cabin air filter, here is what I found !!

How can this be ? I've never seen a cabin air filter this bad before in my entire life, and certainly wouldn't expect to see it after only 25K miles. Ironically, I only purchased a replacement filter so that I could meet the minimum shipping charge for Amazon.

I'm glad now that I did...

I can't imagine that time has anything to do with it, miles and or hours that the blower motor is running would be key. If it sat in a garage with the factory car cover on it (as I was told and appears to be the case) the cabin filter would not get dirty. Nothing else on the car is dusty or dirty.

Two years ago mine looked the same at 37,000 miles. Not sure it it was replaced previously. Like you I'd ordered a "spare" filter.

The blowers in my cars run at at least low speeds all the time.

I don't understand what you're expecting...

A filter is filtering the outside elements, it's kinda going to happen. There's a reason why it's recommended to replace cabin filters at twice the rate of engine filters.

I bought my 06 with 38k miles on it two months ago. Last week I changed mine. I'm not sure if it had been changed before either but it made yours look halfway decent. The whole thing was full of debris like yours has only in the middle. My CR-v doesn't get this bad. It could be the location of the one in the S2k.

I always questioned why a convertible needs a cabin air filter.

you replace your cabin filter 4 time a year, minimum? I replaced mine at 55,000 and it looked terrible and haven't thought about it since(car has 98,000 now)
