What's the big deal making your headlight and taillight bezels clear?

You're taking out the reflector which can save you from an accident or somebody hitting your car in a dark parking lot. In state where there is state inspection your car might not pass for this reason.

Maybe there's some kind of Darwinism inherent to this idea of blacking out headlights and removing reflectors. I hope our race survives this wave of stupidity.
