That looks like a pretty good meet, I think the guy was having a laugh with the wooden steering wheel - he had a snap on boss with a rather tasty MomoCorse wheel in one shot

Looks to me like the Cusco Roll Bar. The bar is fat because it has a rubber wrap around the tubing. If it is the Cusco Bar I've been told it is a cosmetic bar and the manufacturer does not recommend it for track use. However, this bar is a great design for those of us who do not want to remove their OEM hoops.

As far as visibility out the rear window, if you were to have a bar like that custom made you could have the cross brace lowered slightly and give yourself a bit more visibility. For me this is not an issue because I use the side rear view mirrors much more than the center one. I guess this is a habit formed from the motorcycle.

My '02 S2 Spa is due in April. Getting a custom bar made is Job #1 for me. I too have lots of BMW friends and we have a tube bender local who has done lots of cages and roll bars for the BMW crowd. I wish somebody like HMS in Massachusetts would make a bar for us! The bar they have made for the Z3 is beautiful. The welds are like artwork.

What the f--- is the point behind that?! The design looks cool, why not make it functional?!
