According to the manual, you only have 120 miles 'til VTEC. I think it also says not to change the oil until 3000. Mine has 8600 miles and Mobil1.(seems to be the choice of all Honda dealers in U.S. if you want synthetic)

Right, cause 10,000 miles is enough to judge the long-term reliability of an engine.

Been an owner for more than ten years.
92,000 miles.
Many track days and autocrosses and road trips.
Started with 13 miles on the odo.
Hit redline on the drive home from the dealership. Never looked back.
I think I hit the cold rev limit only once or twice ever.
Regular oil changes.
Engine feels like it runs as strong as new.
Doesn't burn any oil.

Basically did the same with my Integra GSR that saw 8000rpm regularly and never had an issue in the 45k miles I owned it.

YMMV.

Quality and consistent maintenance leads to a strong engine. They're created leapyears better out of the factory now a days.

I patiently waited with my first car...looking back, I should've VTEC'd right out of the dealership.

Which is exactly what I did with my second S!

Since mine was bought used, I was able to VTEC from my 1st day of ownership! I try to VTEC when I can, mainly long straights/curves without much traffic.

I redlined it multiple times and I had like 75 miles on it. 75k miles and still going strong. No need to wait, bust it open right now.
