Default one really hot hot tire

i've been noticing that something in the rear of my s2000 has been smelling like its burning. it smells like plastic is melting or that glue gun smell. i've looked around and don't see anyting. i have noticed that one of my tires gets very hot. like the polish lip portion is super hot. What could cause one tire to heat up more than the others? the pressure are all hte same in all 4 tires. Anyone else have this problem. the smell is pretty strong but i cna't really tell exactly where its coming from.

Try jacking it up and spinning the tire. See if you can tell what's rubbing. I know a couple guys that have had problems with their brakes locking up on one rear wheel, that might be the problem.

This happened to my pickup truck before. After a long drive I've noticed that one of the rear wheels are super hot. Hot enough that when I sprayed water on the wheels it sizzled. Problem was the brake pads were sticking. Pads where not returning back to floating position. Solution was to overhaul brake pistons and new pads.

Most likely it is the wheel that is getting hot and not the tire. Could be a dragging brake, could be a bad bearing. Dragging brake is a pretty common automotive failure.

Agree with brake or wheel bearing.

Have you recently changed your brakes? Sometimes people don't realize that the rear pads have to align correctly to the piston or it will be too tight.

I've had a caliper seize up on this car. The rim gets extremely hot, so does the tire. Smells very bad (try not to inhale it, brake dust is extremely bad for you). Simple rebuild of the caliper and regreasing the slider pins solved it.

When you say there is plenty of life left in the brakes you are talking about the pads. Problems in the piston or calliper assembly can cause a brake to lock or at least drag as well. Its easy to check. Chock the front wheels, put the car in neutral, be sure the e-brake is off, and jack up the hot corner. See if the wheel turns easily.
