Default One of the saddest days of my life....

So I'm on the highway driving home from work today. Normal driving conditions, no hard driving. I'm going about a steady 70mph, going with the flow of traffic. I start hearing a buzz from the rear of my car, and it starts to get more intense. In my head, I'm thinking "I'm only a couple of miles away from home, I'll check it out when I get there."

Then it happens. The sound gets even more worse, and then, NOTHING; as in, the car doesn't engage into gear. I could shift gears, but the car acts as if its still in neutral when I gave it gas. The motor still runs, but the transmission isn't grabbing. So I pull over on the side of the freeway, and 2 1/2 hours later my car is back on my driveway after getting towed.

I'M CRUSHED.

S2Ki gurus, is my transmission or clutch fooked? I'm no mechanic by any means, but from how my car was acting, I wouldn't be surprised if its one or the other. Here's a pic of my car to make me, and hopefully my s2ki brethren, feel better too.

be brave, get it up in the air and pull the trans back an see.. or get it to an S2k mechanic type and have them get it into the air and see.. then you'll know.. til then, you'll only fret over something unknown..

I broke mine a couple months ago.. feels like crap, then it feels better as you get it sorted out..

Thanks for the words of encouragement, gentlemen. I guess I'm just boiled over the fact right now, that my car won't be operational for a while. It's a gut wrenching feeling at the moment. I'm sad, mad, disappointed, hateful, everything. The S is one of the few things that I look forward to everyday; and now, it's non functioning.

But yeah, I'm gonna get someone to look at it asap to see what went wrong, then sort it out from there. Will keep everyone posted.

Not that bad, at least you didnt wreck your car.
Did you have symptoms of the clutch slipping before? If it was the clutch being burnt out then a) you wouldn't be even able to put it in any gears while the car is running b) the rear wouldn't make noise
It sounds like your diff is jacked up. You're not getting any power to the wheels
You can find an used diff on craigslist for anywhere from $150 -500 and swap it in in 1 day no biggie.

I thought this was going to be an accident thread especially when I saw the flat bed tow truck.
You will find the problem, put the experience in your bag of tricks.
Life goes on. Worry about the stuff you can change; do not be concerned about the stuff beyond your control.

It'll all work out and you'll have a stronger car.

Please let us know what happened and how it got resolved, might save one of us a little worry down the road

Dont worry mate, you will see that you will have your S2k running in a few days.

If it was a crash it would be far more complicated.

If that's the saddest day of your life since you've had your S2000, not too bad at all.
I hit an elk on the interstate with a 70 mph speed limit last Halloween as two elk darted out in front of me, and was only able to slow down a bit--hit the second one. My S was nearly totaled, but I still drive it today thanks to a great body shop. Just know, when you get your car back from whatever shop you take it to, it will be as good or better than before. Just make sure to do a little research first as to which one so it gets done right.
