open source ecu flashing
is there any open source honda ecu flashing software/hardware? i find it so weird that i haven't seen crazy mention and following for such an idea.
in the dsm world there's multiple piggybacks that were all invididually developed. stuff like controlling timing through cam angle sensors is really useful for a piggyback.
there's also open source flashing software and hardware where you can directly affect timing and fuel.
honda has such a huge following there must be so many programmers at the demographic's disposal... why hasn't something like this been developed?

Doesn't look like the AP1 ECU's are flashable with any normal tools. There was a japanese company that developed a flashing tool but, apparently honda sat of them so, they stopped selling it to the public. Once you learn how to flash, you have to get an image, then you have to reverse engineer the image to even know where the code and data is. Without Access to honda's tools, there's no way to even begin to reverse engineer it. I don't think US dealers are even equipped to flash these ECU's. Without some background stuff there's nothing for people to work with. Capture me the data stream of a honda tool re-flashing an ECU and then you'll have something to work with.
If you start a project and find some way to read and re-flash the ECU, I'm more than happy to contribute code to the project.
Why hasn't someone invented anti-gravity? It's the same kind of question.

There's only one year of AP2 that's flashable, 2006 and that's because the ECU's been redesigned to be like the more modern Civic and RSX ECU.
So the answer is no at this point. Is it a project you're going to take on?

actually no, the thing is this is a luxery that i'm accustomed to. i mean in most areas of intense motorspors enthusiasm you see factory ecu rewriting.
lt1 and ls1 camaros, lancer evolution and other mitsubishis, subaru wrx and sti, and the list goes on...
the great thing about flashes is that you can control everything directly and it's stocklike silky smooth driveability if you don't overstep the tuning boundaries. i can totally see an s with larger injectors and a supercharger that is totally a candidate for stock ecu tuning.
every single s2k has a vafc (it seems) and you could have the SAME benefits for less and no equiptment, just charged a small one time fee (and if it was freeware then just buy the cable or borrow from a local).
of course this all requires some expertise but honda is AMAZING in its following... just IMAGINE how HUGE the turn out would be EVEN if you made it freeware!!!
the other thing i'm concerned with is there's no other laptop based piggybacks. in the evo world there's utec, xede, ecu+, and i'm sure a host of other laptop based piggybacks that have amazing logging features and the ability to control timing (indirectly) and fuel etc. with cool functions like no lift shift, rev limit resetting and even variable valve timing actuation control.
i guess i just have to bring it up, i'm no programmer but i know there's a demand and i know honda's enthusiast following has the human resources at their disposal.
