Why on earth is anyone trying to top out a car on public streets?

Evangigi 06-12-2018 08:47 AM

because its there, like a caged animal. ( i wouldn't do it anyways, just trying to find a true max speed, not what it says in the manuel)

Because the Porsche behind you is in a hurry and wants you to change to the middle lane, only because the guy with the Suzuki GSXR 1000 behind the porsche tries the same thing to the porsche.......

Greetings from Germany. :hello:

The S2000 is aerodynamically limited to right about 150mph with the OE engine. A tail wind helps. :)

Actually, I am pretty sure that the AP2 is rev limited and should make it with the top up. Mid 150s IIRC with stock tires..

Take it to a track or some drag strip to see how fast you can go in a quarter mile or so. Do NOT try this on public roads.

Limiters (I am not sure the AP2 is rev limited, but would have to look it up) aside, the two cars will go the same top speed. Top speed is 100% based upon power and aero (and aero drag has an exponential relationship with speed, so this is why it takes so much HP to go a little bit faster in regards to top speed). Stock aero is not really any different between the AP1 and AP2. HP is also the same. Thus, unless one of them is otherwise limited below 149 mph, then they both will run about 149mph (149 is the drag limited spec for an AP1). Some may go a bit faster with a tailwind, or slower due to some issue or headwind, but otherwise will run about that speed if you have enough room to do it.

And no, dont do it on the road of course.
