Default Opinions needed on S2000 purchase

I have been lurking here for over 2 YEARS now, learning all I can about the S2000. I have finally made the decision to pull the trigger and buy one.

My local Honda dealer has a used 2004 Silverstone/Black with 23,000 miles. Honda certified for $25,900.

They also have a used 2005 Silverstone/Black with a whopping *173* miles on it. Honda certified for $28,700. Story I was told was a lady bought it, and scratched the rear bumper the next day. I see the scratch, and it is tiny....She took it back to the dealer and TRADED IT IN on another new one. Not sure I believe the story and will look at Carfax to see if it sheds light on the car. The inspection sticker on the windshield shows a date of November 2004 as to when it was first put in service, so someone has been sitting on it for a long time.... The nice thing is, if I buy this one, it will come with the extra 12,000 miles of the full warranty and the 7 year/100,000 mile powertrain warranty which a brand new one would not.

Obviously, I can also wait 2 months and buy a brand new 2006 for around $30,500, but do not get the extra warranty of the used 2005 model.

So, guys, I would really like to get your opinions and thoughts. Thanks for this final bit of help before I can finally join you all in owning an S2000!

Go with the '05. That's a hell of a price. I paid $29,000 2 months ago for a left over '04 Silverstone/Black with a couple hundred miles and no Cretification. The car was never sold (arrived at the dealer last Sept.)If you can live with the scratch, the difference in the miles and the little extra $$$ for the '05 seems like the best deal to me.

Go with the MY 05,and have them fix the scratch for free;should not be a problem,if it's tiny.
But the "Lady's" story,is hard to swallow.

I wouldn't buy that '05. That story they gave you doesn't pass the bullsh!t test. Nobody, and I mean nobody, would do that. Let's see, the car was first sold in Nov. '04 and traded back the next day. That means it's been sitting at the dealership about 8 months without being resold. Sure. I would bet this is a flood damaged car that has no obvious appearance problems, but the electrical systems will be a nightmare for the rest of the car's life. That extended warranty is great, except for the endless hassles of bringing the car in for problems over and over. Better make sure the warranty provides for a rental car too, or you're going to be out of pocket. Do yourself a favor and pass on it. There are lots of good cars out there with no stories.

The saying "if it's too good to be true, it probably isn't" has no more appropriate application than in car dealerships.

I would worry about flood damage, or perhaps look at the car in the right light and see some hail damage, etc.

Why has no one in 8 months snatched this car up before you?

Personally, I'd spend a few more thousand and get a car that is fresh off of the delivery truck that no idiot has test driven, etc.
