Default opinions on tinting hardtop?

Recently installed a hardtop on my 01 berlina black s2k. Love the look but I was wondering if anybody has tinted only the rear hardtop window and not the sides?

I'm not too crazy about tinting the side windows as the car is already dark enough inside, but i am wondering if it would look tacky if i only tint the back window?

Also, what is the general consensus of most hardtop owners regardting tinting? I have read some people think the hardtop looks funny without tint.

I kinda like the roadster look from the back window where you can see the seats, but i know i also wouldn't mind having it tinted.

If anybody has pics of their hardtop window tinted to help give me an idea that would be great.

I'm considering tinting mine as well so I would be interested in seeing a few pics. Hopefully some pics of a Moonrock will be posted. I won't be tinting the sides as they would probably not reach the legal requirement.

IMO the car looks much better tinted than with no tint on the hard top and side windows. Since I'm the world's worst photographer, the pics below do not realy reflect how good the OEM hard top looks with tinted windows.

you need tint to be consistent. It would look goofy if you didnt tint the sides. I did 15% all around and LOVE it

that's what i was thinking..only thing is where i live any tint at all on the front windows is illegal, and the cops are fairly strict in enforcing this (speaking from experience with previous vehicles)

I was just curious as to how it would look with just the hardtop tinted, compared to no tint at all on the vehicle.

Some people say that the hardtop looks kind of funny without tint, but i guess from the general opinions here it would look even funnier if i tinted just the hardtop and not the sides?

by the way alexei thanks for the pics, what % is your tint?

In California we aren't allowed to tint the front driver/passenger side windows either, so what I did is select the second lightest of five shades tint darkness for the front windows, and the second darkest of five shades tint for the back window. Sorry I do not know exactly what percentage tint it is; however, my front windows are still light enough that I'm not blatantly breaking the law. I know it's hard to tell from my crappy pictures, but the truck rear/back window tint is the darkest of five shades; it is almost impossible to see inside that vehicle... not so for the S2K.

Since I have a 50 mile drive to work into the rising morning sun, I also placed a strip of the darker tint across the top of the front windshield (it really helps).

The tint also helps keep car cooler in the SoCal Summer heat, and since it blocks UV rays it also protects the dash and seats from most sun damage.

Despite what you might think, the car does not look odd with different percentage tinting... it looks VERY nice.

That does look nice, maybe i will consider a similar setup to yours in doing a lighter tint on the front windows and dark on the back. I just wanted to stray away from anything too dark on the front windows as it attracts too much unwanted attention.

Wow I must say though it makes me pretty jealous to hear you talk about your morning commute in the bright sunlight! I'm in Alberta Canada and we don't see a whole lot of sun here for 7 or 8 months out of the year, so my tint is more for cosmetic purposes rather than blocking out sun or protecting my interior.

However, I imagine it will be nice having tint on the rear windows to help protect my eyes a bit against blinding truck headlights behind me!

I think tinting only the hardtop will look OK on your black car.

You are right. I didn't realize ~blacks2k~'s S2K is black... Duh! It would look real good with just the back window tinted dark.
