Default Optimum shifting rpms?

Need expert advise,
What's the optimum rpm reading for shifting my s2k for quick
acceleration?
My thinking about 5500 rpms?

5,000 is more than enough for me for "quick" acceleration. 4,500 is even very suitable.

Everyone's definition of "quick" is going to be different. If I want to avoid VTEC, then I shift every gear just before the VTEC engagement point, otherwise, I shift it at 9K.

You hit peak at that point, but if you shift there, then you drop further out of the power band than you would want for optimum acceleration.

On another note, I tested my car vs my friends gs 2001 eclipse last night. Its an auto four banger vert.

Shifting at 6k rpm, he and I are exactly even. He thought he had me.

Thats true, but the idea is to rev higher, so you land smack into that peak power on the NEXT shift.

There is a formula based on gear ratios, powerband, etc that calculates optimum shift points for you. But for the S2000, I'm pretty sure redline shifts for every gear will give you better times.

Shifting at redline will give you the most area under the curve for each gear, except MAYBE 5th -> 6th.

I usually shift at about 5000 or 5500, sometimes i will just tap into the vtec (6200-62300) to get a nice sound and scare the person next to me!

I hate it when I just barely hit VTEC. With the AEM, it sounds like something is just wrong with the motor for it to BLAH! for 1/2 second before shifting.
