Default Ouch! busted my suspension

I Just got my new car to replace the flooded car 2 weeks ago. It only has 850 miles one it. Last night it had had finished raining and I was taking my favorite exit ramp. I was feeling very comfortable with my new Toyo RA-1 competion tires since they have been sticking better than the OEM's. I went into the turn fairly hot, thinking that the new tires could handle at least as much as the OEMs in the wet. Well, the rear end started to step out and I was was not able to correct fast enough to recover. The car continued to spin almost 180 degrees. By this point, I should have put both feet in and let the tires lock up, but I waited too long to do this. The car continued to spin but also drifted back toward the outside of the curve and it jumpted the outside curb backwards. The outside tires jumped the curb no problem, but the inside rear wheel got hung up on the curb and BANG! the peice of the knuckle that connects to the lower control arm snapped. This caused the wheel to flail around and snapped the upper control arm connector in the process. The car slid back into the street. The rear wheel folded under the car and the lower control arm got caught in the wheel, bending it downward. The car ended up sidways and immovable in the middle of the street.

1. I should NOT have been pushing the car anywhere near the tire's limits on the street.
2. I should NOT have been pushing the car anywhere near the tire's limits in the rain.
3. There is no excuse for loosing control of a car other than a mechaninical failure.
4. I should have locked up the wheels as soon as the car spun more than 90 degrees.

All in all, I am lucky: I was not injured. I didn't hit anything or anyone else. I didn't get a ticket. The accident was not written up by the Police. I didn't do any damage to the car other than the right rear suspension.

I don't want to make an insurance claim for this since I'm still waiting to settle the insurance claim for the flooded car. I have 2 non-running cars I hope this doesn't cost more than a couple thousand.

Well, what about swapping out suspension from the flooded car in the meantime? maybe insurance will let you buy those pieces from the flooded car for cheap?

I did the same exact thing about two weeks ago -- I did however, get citations for wreckless driving, negligent driving and failure to control speed. I had to retain an attorney as it is almost certain I will lose my license for some amout of time -- based on prior incidents.

I also "wacked" my front wheel and blew both tires out. The good news is that all of the parts that they need, are in the US -- I should have the car back in about two weeks. I am most likely going to sell it wholesale through the dealer and then get a new one at their cost -- nice to know they right people!

When it is all said and done -- the tab is going to be in the $4-6K range -- I am getting a new front and rear bumper cover and the driver side rocker panel needs to be touched up.

Good luck with everything -- sucks to be in this position.

Let see? Lower control arm. I think I bought one not too long ago.

I'm glad you are okay. Be careful. The HOUSTOOK list of casualties keeps growing.

I'm staying home this weekend. BAD KARMA!!

Ouch, sorry to hear about your misshap. I suggest you check your rotors, they are notorious for getting tweeked when taking out a curb.
