OUCH- new Miata better than an S2000 ???
I really don't get it when some guys say that the ND is a better sport car cause it's faster on autox tracks(small track 40-50-60sec max,or karting tracks).Of course for an unexpierienced driver the ND seems easier to archive fast laps easier with a car like this(excellent handling, low weight, low power). But when you get them both on a real track or the mountain the s2000 will smoke the ND hands down. There is just no comparisson! The ND is a lot easier to drive and on tight tracks the heavier s2000 is difficult to show its potenzional.Maybe to be as fast as in an ND in a small-tight track you need experience in an s2k but if you want the raw feeling of an open sportscar the s2000 is the way.And as i said above there is no comparisson between the 2 if we're talking for a real track. We've seen almost stock or stage1 n/a S2000s hunting m3s and m4s and porsches on tracks like nurburgring where the power counts a lot. There is NO possible way to chase that kind of cars with an ND!The s2000 is the king there and the ND is a very pleasant toy!A very good car overall but different class.

There's K24 powered NA and NB miatas that are bordering on fastest shit ever made...
but...again...
that doesn't mean they're better.

This comes up every year, and it's always the same pathetic article. This authors are always reaching in vain to try and dethrone the 20 year old s2000 that also serves as the benchmark for all modern roadster development.....Nothing wrong with the Miata, but you can't really call it a "sports" car like you would an s2000.
Whether you're a fan of the s2000 or not, everyone that drives one has to admit that it just has something special about it. Sometimes the flaws are what defines the lovable characteristics of someone/something; the imperfections are what defines perfection when it comes to an emotional standpoint vs a logical one....And I think people that drive for the pure enjoyment of it are doing so for the evocation of emotion, nothing really logical about driving without a purpose/destination.....and that's completely okay.

The Miata is the spiritual successor of the classic sports car. In fact, I’d argue the Miata is a better sports car than the S2000.
Doesn’t mean I subjectively prefer it to the S2000.***
***I don’t prefer to AP1. I would take ND2 over AP2 bc AP2 is gross
the ND.V2 is an excellent car. I've driven it and got a good feel. The shifter is better than the s2000. Good looks. Nearly equal power to wt ratio. Good seats. Competitive weapon at autocross- rules STR now. Warranty approved. Tonnes of aftermarket stuff.
but...interior is smaller than the s2000 and I find the passenger side not as conducive to long trips- my legs can't stretch out nicely. Smaller trunk. Way more expensive than what I bought my s2000 for. Not as "premium" as the s2000.
its really close, but win to the s2000.

The ND2 is an amazing car, probably the closest thing to the S2000's spirit and they are a blast to drive. That said, I have an S2000 in my garage for a reason, when I could have a Miata.
I think the writer fell in love with the aggressive throttle of the Miata, and it's newness. I think if I was facing the prospect of spending money on a car today, a New Miata vs a 10 year old at least S, the case is only getting stronger for the Miata. Or maybe a Lotus.
I also appreciate Mazda for sticking with the Miata for 30 years, unlike Honda. Imagine what a 2020 S2000 could have been.
