Out of State Purchase
Unfortunately living in sunny Southern California does have its drawbacks. Testdrove a couple S2Ks at two different dealers. Both were marked up $5,000. The sticker on one actually said "family package" added (read: price gouge). I could have negotiated close to MSRP but I can't help but think I'll get a better deal buying the car out of state (especially given the 10 foot snowbanks in the NE I keep seeing on the nightly news). Does anyone have some advice as to which dealers/states/salesmen I should use. Some contact information would be greatly appreciated.

You can get them from out of state, but you still have to pay tax in OC.

If you can somehow get to Chicago, many dealers over there are having s2000's go for near invoice...read $29k, give or take a couple hundred!

Theo, I am allot closer to him than Chicago, try about 10 miles from him. I'm just letting him know one of his options, no one is making him buy it. Convertible sales are poor in Chicago, hence the sale price, the market is effected by the weather. Dealers have to pay flooring plans if their cars sit around too long, ie: all winter in Chicago. I agree if he wants to go to Chicago for a good deal, go for it, in fact it would be fun to fly out there in the summer and drive it back. TS why don't you do that?

I bought my 2002 in Ohio with 5k miles for $28000 it was like new!
Still had to pay $2400 to get it registeres, ah and a smog cert $30.
Saved a lot though as every dealer at the time was asking crazy amounts here in CA.!!

TSchaeffer, that's a good price in SoCal! If you consider out of state, you'll still have to pay tax and freight charge unless you drive it back and then it's just tax.
Everything is negotiable in the end.
Matt, my friend is tossing the idea around of picking up an S (not sure when) but we'll definitely stop by.

Pierceman's prices are great if he's got the colors you want. I located a brand-new '02 for $28.9 but of course had to pay about $1000 for shipping.
If I had found that '02 black/black here in NB for $29.9, I would have jumped on it (Pierceman where were you when I was shopping!!???)
And yep, the taxes, registration, etc. will be the same no matter where you buy.
