Default over $6 for 4 washers, transmission and diff

For an oil change I got 2 washers for the transmission and 2 washers for the differential.

transmission was 2x 60cents which is reasonable I suppose
but diff was almost $3 and $1.50.

I mean sure its only $6 but still its just 4 little metal rings. Am I missing something?

Today I've called several dealers and they don't even have the differential drain/fill washers in stock. Which is really wierd because you would think that the dealers would have commonly replaced maintainance parts in stock. The diff washers are individually packed, so they will be pricey regardless. I think buying it online (i.e. HTG) and throwing in some oil filters is the best way to get these without paying jacked up prices from the dealer. I bought a pack of 50 washers for oil changes and it only cost ~$15. I wished the diff washers were also sold in bulk.

What you should do is get an old one and measure it up with some vernier calipers. Then, drive around to a few fastener places and auto shops and see if you can find an equivalent at a cheaper price.

By about lunch time you should realise what a tight ass you're being and just buy them from the dealer.

Yea gone are the good old days where they can just give you some for free. I mean the guy got the trans washers out of a big bag, gave me 2, when I asked for a zip lock, he said he didn't have any. But he casually handed me them, and I had already brought all the oil and all from them so I assumed at least they were free. Then he goes oh pay at the register!! Then handed me a big plastic bag. Seriously though, 2 free washers would have gone a long way, maybe I would have a relationship as I live close by and buy a honda there next time. Oh well....... guess I won't have any allegiance either.

I had to order the diff washers, not in stock either, so they did give it to me dry. I got to drive back and get them in a few days they said lol.

And I hope you said, "Thank you sir! May I have another!"

Plan ahead a bit, and order a year's (or two's) supply of this nickel-dime-quarter (back in the day) stuff from someone like Hardtopguy. Oil filters, drain washers, etc. have a very long shelf life. These oil filters fit on my '94 Integra. Wiper refills are a really good item to order as you're trying to build the dollar amount to minimize shipping.

Or make two trips in to your local dealer, one to order and another to pick up your parts. And ask if you "may have another."

I think they figure you would have to pay shipping and handing fees when you buy online so they match the price.
