Default Is the owner's manual written by morons?

Is the owner's manual written by morons? In a word, yes. I thank other posters here on this forum for flagging two serious cautions, both of which could have disastrous consequences.
1. Do not exceed 5500 rpm for the first 600 miles. You will find that in the owner's manual, although it is in normal sized print, and buried in the text, no boldface or exclamation points. That does not mean that Honda takes any responsibility for premature engine wear if you fail to follow that warning. Hey, Honda, how about a sticker on the steering wheel, or on the dash, or some such prominent place. Heaven knows, there are more than enough warning stickers pasted on the car regarding the air bag system.
2. Do not put the compact spare on a rear wheel position, as that will damage the differential. That item, too, is buried in the normal sized print, which you are certain to read very, very carefully as you struggle with a flat by the side of an expressway on a dark and rainy night. Sure. It is a pain, to be certain, but if you get a rear flat tire, you must first pretend you have a front flat tire, put the compact spare in the front position, and then swap the good front tire with the flat rear tire. Lots of fun. Hmmm, Honda, if you can't afford bold face or exclamation points in the manual, perhaps you can put a big red sticker on the jack? Oh, darn, then you lose the opportunity to sell some poor clod a new rear end for mucho $$$, and, of course, not covered by warranty.
Again, I want to thank the sharp fellow S2000 owners who have warned this brand new owner. As for the highly paid professionals who coordinated the writing of the owner's manaul, let us all say together: "One, two, three, shame on you - idiots!" I personally intend to take the constructive step of voicing my concerns to my friendly Honda dealer's service department the next time my car is in for maintenance.

jelliotlevy,

You obviously read the Owner's Manual and are now well informed, despite the lack of bold-faced type. You make youself sound like the someone who spills hot coffee on their lap at a McDonalds and expects a $116 million dollar settlement because you didn't realize that Hot Coffee is hot!

Jeez!

My favorite is the bit about how you have to tow the S2000 on a flat-bed, but the tow hook that you screw into the bumbers is only suitable for pulling the S2000 on the level, such as getting it out when stuck in the sand. How are you supposed to get the S2000 up onto the flat-bed?

Many cars besides the S2000 are flat-bedded, and none of them have tow hooks like ours. I supect there are ways, y'know?

No. The owner's manual is written FOR morons. I'm sure if they had anticipated the need to add stickers and bold printing, the first item of business would be to do so. Haven't you looked at your visors lately?

BTW, if you are nitpicking the manual, you'll probably hate the car.

Actually there are holes under the frame for hooks. Look where the jack is supposed to go under the car. Look at the fram and run your hand along the bottom. you should see a rubber grommet. If you remove it there is a square hole for the tow truck hooks to pull and secure it to the flat bed.
