Maybe just buy a Honda certified S2k and pay most of it off?? Idk an S2k is my dream car. That's all I really want. Ultimately I'm a car guy. Every car I've had has been modified. I can't deal with a stock car. Hell any car I seriously considered getting was modified on paper before I bought it. Plus, if I do buy some other car and then trade it in for an S2k, I figure THAT would be a bigger waste of money than just goin for an S2k. Does anyone see where I'm comming from?

^ not if u buy a beater!

when u buy a car for 1-2k and u can turn around and sell it for the same - where's the lost money other than gas and insurance?

if u know u'r not going to be driving it - don't buy it bro. it's a great car, and when the day comes u WILL be driving - thats when u buy it and make you're lil mods and such. u'r not even in the navy yet, so chances are you won't be making jack sh!t. entering the military as E1-E3 isn't anything and most privates just waste a bunch of their money on boose, women, gambling, entertainment (tv's/PS3's/Xbox360's/stereo's/movies/etc), and so on. if u can make it the first couple years and steadily stockpile money up, sure u'll b able to buy your CR. right now your eyes are big because u know u'll finally have a steady income.

steady income means nothing with an E1's salary. and money means nothing if u continue to blow through it.

An S means nothing if u can't afford gas for it, 800dollars for new tires u ripped up, the 600 to replace the bumper u messed up doing something stupid, the increased insurance costs if u get tickets, the 500dollars for a stock rim if u crack one, etc, etc, etc.

Call me naive but why would you buy an S2000 if you're joining the Navy. I mean you'd be paying monthly payments for a vehicle you couldn't enjoy because you're on duty right??? What's the point then? If you really need a car you're better off buying a beater that you won't have to worry about when you're away. That alone will drive you crazy.
My 2 cents.
LOL!!

I'm on my second S2000, and I've been Active Duty Navy for almost 7 years. You're not gone ALL the time.

To the OP, if you're about to join the Navy, I'm guessing you'll most likely be an E-1 to E-3. I know that NFCU is very strict on how much they give to certain ranks, and if your score isn't that great, it might be tough to get approved... even for something as little as 10k.

Good luck to you

With all the responses I've made my decision..I'm gonna save up for a year (while in A-School) and get a Certified AP1 or early AP2. Put a good 11k down and take out a loan for, what? About 5-6k? And pay it off. Forget a new car. It would be nice but I guess I'm pushing my luck and trying to set myself up for failure. I learned the first time and I'm not gonna make the same mistake twice. Thanks to all for the feedback--Matt

BTW, I ship out to Basic on the 25th of November.

I get a monthly bonus for what I do/where I'm stationed, and even when I contemplated getting an S as an E-4, I didn't want to touch monthly payments. I bought plenty used, but taken care of so I didn't have to finance anything.

Let me put it this way : Once you make E-4, your weekly take home pay is just over $350. Food for thought.
