Paint Problems?
Thank you for your answers to my previous lemon question. I must tell you that everyone who is a member of this site has convinced me that I must have this car and the information is great. I went back to the dealership because I'm almost ready to move on the car. When I looked under the hood and in the door jams I noticed that the paint look very, very thin in some areas. I realize these are not areas prone to viewing but I was wondering if this is just a Honda trait? Someone mentioned paint peeling as a problem. Does anyone know Honda's warranty on paint?
I have owned several Honda's in the past and currently own 2.
The Accord Coupe is fine, however I too noticed the paint looking very thin on the interior jambs of the trunk and same for the hood. . .
I have not seen any paint problems as of yet, however I do garage mine every night and keep it clean throughout the week.
I am sure what ever the problem is with your paint, that Honda will make it right! Especially for an S2000 owner!

I had the paint peel off the front bumper right where it met the hood.
Others, on the board had a similar problem.
Yes Honda did repaint the bumper.
And it almost matches.
And they were kind of proud of that
.
And they managed to get overspray over the whole car
After convincing them that I did have overspray they fixed it with yet another trip to the dealer.
I like this car but I don't like HONDA.

Which body shop did you use? I'm seeing a bit of separation on the bumper as well. I was waiting until the end of the winter to have it repainted. I'm sure you know Texas and that kitty litter they use when it gets icy. I was hoping to get a few more chips on the bumper and have it repainted.
I definitely don't want to take it to the dealer you used. Sorry for the heartache. That's rough

It's not uncommon for the door jamb and under trunk and hood areas to have thinner coverage than the outside surfaces, Honda does a better job than a lot of other car manuf. I will say I'm not overly impressed with the paint job on my yellow 01, it has a least a dozen flaws. Mostly they are silicone (fish eyes), rather small spots that the clear coat didn't flow into, but I'm not going to fix them no one sees them unless I point them out. The factory (before dealership) tried to fix a couple of them and did a crappy job, so I fixed a few that they cruded up. A comment on your bumper, I can't believe the dealership didn't remove the bumper cover before they painted it, that is bodyshop 101. The problem you need to be aware of now is that the paint they have now used on your bumper is less flexible than the factory paint. If you hit any curbs or something small, the bumper would flex without cracking with the factory paint, but aftermarket paint will not flex as much. I just hope I don't have to paint anything on mine, unless you've seen a spa yellow up close, many don't realize that it is a yellow pearl. (real difficult to match)
I just had my front bumper repainted for the reason mentioned above (paint peel near juncture with hood). As funcar experienced, the color almost matches on my car too.
I took the bumper off and delivered it to the paint shop. However, now I have to drive back with the bumper mounted on the car so that it can be wet-sanded to smooth out some dust bumps and minor irregularities. Apparently, the loose bumper wouldn't hold still for the wet-sanding process.
