Just wondering if anybody was offered some kind of paint protectant at the dealer, and if so, do you have any clue what exactly it is? I'd appreciate the help. Thanks

I can't say for sure what you were offered but here's my story: Many, many years ago, the Honda dealers around here used to offer a paint protection process that they would charge about $200.00 Can. for. I've never put much stock in these "packages" so I never bought into it. I then ran into a guy that happened to be the regional distributor for this very same product. It wasn't a wax but some kind of chemical paint sealant. (It actually worked really well. More on that later.) He sold me two bottles of this stuff for $10.00 ea. They came in a case of six bottles. I managed to treat about six cars with one bottle. Talk about mark up. Since then, I've used various things on the market and many of them worked just as well for protecting the paint. The original "Honda" treatment was supposed to be good for the life of the car with annual "touch ups". Just go get whatever you feel good about and do your car at least once a year and you'll be fine. This will give you a chance to carress your baby once in a while to find all the little nicks and scratches on the thing so you can fix 'em.

I have bought into a system called Mr.Cap, don't know if this is for Sweden only or if it has the same name in other parts of the world. This is also based on an annual or semi-annual renewal (about 175 US or so). I think it makes sense to get an extra coat on top of the paint, smaller scratches (from washing for instance) harm this layer only and disappear completely after the renewal. It also took some of the orange peel effect off the paint. And, washing is easier and there is no waxing required which i like a lot!

The reason I ask is because they gave it to me No charge at the dealer, and told me I would not need to ever wax it. They said the only thing I'll need to do is wash it with soap and water. Sorry, always distrusted dealers.

I have been told and believe that the special paint sealant / life time wax stuff is nothing more than a polymer polish formulated for long (1 to 2 years) life rather than highest shine. Basically it is expensive wax job with a high gross profit.. for the 1% that come back dissatisfied they will simply put another coat on. I suggest you skip it if you can.

we chose it on our CL-S because they gave a good deal and the claims on how durable it was were hard to believe...
anyhow, after the first washing, the paint had NO smoothness to it at all.. So, we took it back and got it re-coated..
still same effect... all in all, not impressed.
my g/f's previous car got a bird poop an in 20 mins it took to get home, the poop ate through the clear coat. Figured the sealant might help prevent that, in which case it would be worth the money...
never tested it
oh, all her cars have been waxed atleast twice a year, so it wasn't an issue of neglegence...
