Default Paint rubbing off mirrors while waxing!

I have a Red 2000 s2000 that still looks like new for the most part... however when I remove the wax with a terry towel, the paint on the mirrors comes off along with the wax and makes the towel quite red!

Is this a paint defect? Will the paint eventually wear off the mirrors? They already look quite a bit less shiny and glossy than the rest of the car...

what type of wax are you using? brand and composition.

you may be using one that has cleaners in it that are stripping some of the paint.

There's something wrong. No wax (even cleaner wax) is strong enough to cut through a clear coat.

That's what my mirrors look like after almost 4 years. They are dull and discolored. However, I've noticed the paint coming off when I waxed my car from day 1.

I've also heard stories from "the red S2000's don't have a clearcoat" to "the red S2000's have red paint embedded within the clearcoat". Either way, I've got paint on my buffing cloth, so it doesn't really matter to me.

Just keep waxing your car and it will be protected from the elements. Not from the Honda Elements though!

It must be a RED thing.

This is not a cleaner wax, but Meguiar's Gold Class wax!

I've had the car for 4 years and a little paint has been visible with light buffing from the mirrors every time I do them... but this time it really seemed excessive! With the info I have so far, it would appear the mirrors don't have clearcoat, or have/had a defective clearcoat that wore off prematurely...

i had a red honda civic from the late 80's that turned pink in several locations after less than two years. it was "returned" to honda in exchange for a generous allowance on black prelude.
