I was on Rick's website and love the look of the steering wheel painted red on the top and bottom but, don't really want to spend $400 on it. It looks like another great product from Rick but, I just can't justify spending that much on it. Is there anything else out there that can paint the steering wheel and still make it look good and match the red currently in my car?

I don't think you would like the results of PAINTER leather...perhaps if you want to do this, you would want to dye the leather instead.

Good luck!

if you paint it, well...make sure the can says its a flat color, not gloss. =D

I wouldnt' recommend it. Rick's leather (sounds kinky doesn't it?) is top quality stuff. The exaggerations aren't just for pushing products, its just really good stuff.

I also think the red inserts on Rick's wheels are beautiful and have thought about doing it to my car.

I suppose that you might be able to find a leather shop to dye the leather at the top or bottom. I can't imagine that it would be cheap.

The only other alternative that I can think of is to have additional red leather stitched over that part of the wheel. I can't imagine that would be a good solution, as I think it would lend an uneven surface and look added on.

Does somebody make paint for leather? I can't imagine that it would hold up very well. Dyeing the leather on the wheel would also be a real problem, I think.

It is expensive, and I wish we could do it for less.

Why not take the leather off the wheel and then paint it? Then it would look really "bad" (figuratively speaking)......ROFLMAO

Here's my two cents Don't do it. I understand you like the look of the rick's wheel but if you paint it to justify the cost, you may, eventually, have pay more in the future. It's better to be left alone. Experiments I've done before was not worth the efforts.

cheers,

If you paint it the paint will crack and come off. If you dye it you will end up with black leather with a redish tinge.

Either pay the man $400 smackos for a guaranteed no fuss, no down time swapover; take your steering wheel to another leather house (preferably one that does trimming, not fetish gear) and pay them for a no proven tracjk record job; or develop a love of black.

I like Rick's work, but with our exchange rate, shipping costs, and preponderance of cows any leather stuff I require will have to be done locally.
