Thumbs up Parked in gear on a hill, car rolled back 4 feet..

So I parked my car facing up on a hill, left it in first hopped out like I've always done, and when I came back, the car had moved back about 4 feet...

Is this just not enough compression in the engine to hold it or what? Thoughts?

Lol...Maybe your clutch is slippin'?!!!...j/k

Seriously though was it still in the gear you left it in? Maybe when you put it in gear it didn't fully engage into the gear. Then when there was a little resistance it popped it out of gear into Neutral.

you didnt have the e-brake on? i always put it in gear and use the ebrake, incase one of them fails the other will hold it (hopefully)

my neighbor didnt put their car in gear, and just pulled the ebrake. car ended up rolling down the driveway 50 feet and into a ditch

Well, the e-brake in the S is famous for not holding the car - the engine should hold it. If you rely solely on the e-brake to hold your car on a hill, start putting it in gear as well right away.

The car was fully in gear. Afterall, it moved back a few feet, but didn't keep rolling. I started the car back up, moved it up, shut it off, and left it in first. I clutched out, and the car held for a second, then lurched back once, about a foot or so.

If the car is in gear, I assume the engine is moving backwards as the car rolls. It seems really odd to me, but its a small engine....

try putting it in reverse. i think the manual says to either do first or reverse.

whoa that is really weird.

i never put my car in gear unless i'm on a extreme hill because my ebake never failed on me before and i always forget to put the gear into neutral before starting my car so sometimes it scares the crap out of me when i try to start my car it jumps out. (i don't have to press the clutch in to start my car since it was swapped to a manual from auto and for some reason i don't need to)

but it should not roll down if it's in gear. maybe a couple inches but not 4 feet. that is really weird man i'd get it checked out. thas like saying you put the gear into Park in automatic to find out that it rolled down 4 feet...good thing u didn't have other cars behind u

Yes, but you leave it in first facing up hill, reverse facing down, so it should be in first.

The hill is somewhat steep - 20

You should've turned your front wheels to the right, so when it did start to move, it would just go about 12" into the curb....

If you going to put the car in gear, put it in "Reverse". That the only way it will lock in gear. I learn it the hard way on several occassions by putting into "1st" gear.

Hope this help you in the future.
