Parking and Security
After reading AUS2000's vandalism story I reflected on my own feelings of security at home and elsewhere. Ironically, I feel much much safer when I park at work than when I go home: We have serious men with machine guns guarding my workplace, with a CHP station just 2 minutes away, and a company of Marines can be flown in at a moment's notice.
I don't have such luxuries at home though.

your spoiled. i'm gonna have to set up a cam from my window to always keep an eye on my stook at home until i get a garage. at work its actually a hotel's parking lot so i just have to hope that some idiot from bum fu** wherever in a suv doesn't park on top of my car.

Dang Mingster, who do work for? It's either some government agency or a well connected drug lord
I bought my house about 20 months ago, and a main priority was a lock up garage. I'd been parking my BMW on the street for 4 years and was dying to get back into a convertible. When the S2000 came along it was just perfect.
When I go out at night I seldom take the car. I'm close to town and a taxi there and back is often cheaper than parking. Not to mention not worrying about blood/alcohol limits. And the final consideration of course is the safety of my car with the sort of mindless pratts that come out at night.
Well last night I got a $400 (+ many days of inconvenience and S2000 separation anxiety) confirmation of my paranoia. If you aren't familiar with it, read the Vandalism thread. That's the excess on the insurance. The repair price will be way more than that.
On a positive note, I'll ask if I can keep the old soft top, so I can investigate folding hard rear window options

yeah dude, i read your post, seriously felt bad for you. i had the same experience once with my 92 sentra - of all the cars in the garage (bmw, mercedes, lexus, infinity, etc.) that other people have, my poor little sentra got broken into. those kids (it was NOT a professional) broke the window, and tried to pry out the stereo, but they could only take the head. they also took one of my mud flaps. weird what people steal...
oh yeah, i do work for a government agency that's rumored to have been targeted by certain foreign and domestic people, hence the machine guns. actually, my work place's not as bad as another one of our member's workplace down in alabama. sheesh, those guards CARRY the machine guns around, ours just hide it behind their desks.
damn, the guards at my work just carry donuts. guess thats cause i'm just a web designer.
Mingster: what do you do? must be banking with all the money you spend on mods for your stook.
