I would never park the S with the top down! I get very concern of what could happen with the top down whilst parked!

As for being worried that someone would throw something in the car (milkshake) I can not image someone doing this unless they r really low lowlife. I have never had a problem, but if I parked my car in a bad part of town and nobody is around except for a bunch of teenagers with milkshaks in their hands I would probably put the top up. Enjoy the fact that u own a convertible, 99.9% of the people walking by your car will smile and walk on.

I'm picturing a scene like West Side Story, only everyone has milk shakes....

Especially with the dust part. I don't fret leaving the top down when going somewhere. I just lock the center console and roll up the windows. A thief is a thief whether the top is up or down. I am more worried about the weather turning on me while I am shopping than theft.

Sometimes ignorance is bliss?

I'll leave the top down if I'm not going to be gone for a long time (running into the grocery store, etc). It also depends on the neighborhood I'm in. I have nothing of value in the car, and if they want to steal the stock stereo, it just gives me a good reason to upgrade.
You know your seats cost thousands of dollars.
And they can be removed in seconds....

I've been driving convertibles since I turned 16... 75% of the time I park with my top down, and I've never had any problem because of it. The only exception is that on hot days, I'll put the top up without latching it- just trying to keep the sun off the black leather.

If someone wants to mess with your car, there are enough ways. You just have to have good insurance and believe that most people aren't out to get you.
