Default Passenger Airbag

I just saw a 2007 on the dealer floor and noticed a passenger airbag light above the radio console. Is this a new feature? My 2004 did not have it.

Frankly, Honda should tout this feature on their website since many parents shy away from the S2000 because there is a perception that an airbag disconnect does not come installed from the factory.

Does anyone regularly put their kids up front and does the disconnect work well?

I had an aftermarket switch installed. I have no idea if it works well since my airbag hasn't gone off, but I do take my 4 year old son on rides sometimes. He doesn't like the top down though. :-)

I figure it is pretty rare to be in accident, and I keep my speed quite low. Plus, I only ever take him on the weekends.

The switch was $400 installed. The installer I used came to my office and did it in about 1 hour.

It came out in the 2006 model. This makes it very hard to change seats and keep the airbag sensor. It will totally detect a kid. I had all 5 of my college text books on the seat and the sensor went off.

Apparently, the 06+ have a weight sensor that disables the bag when an occupant weighs less than 65lbs thereby negating the need for an aftermarket switch.

The sensor on my '06 picks up almost any weight in the seat ... even a 1 ltr water bottle will be enough weight to read and disable the airbag.

...what? Shouldn't weight on the passenger seat enable the passenger side airbag?

If it senses that the weight is less than 65lbs, the airbag is disabled. Generally, a child below that weight would be endangered should the airbag deploy

If the passenger weighs more than 65lbs, the airbag system for that side is active.

My 5yr old loves the passenger seat in my 06 the light goes on when she is in it. She weighs about 43lbs.

I had the same question just before I bought mine, had a hard time getting a straight answer too.
