Default Passenger seat rattle!

Help fellow S2K owners!!! I can't enjoy driving my car alone!!!! The passenger seat back rest when not occupied will either rattle on its casting or if slided full back it will rattle against the plastic cover under the rollover bar (meaning the one with the 2 small hooks positioned on each side the use of which I am uncertain/unfammiliar with ). Of course no such rattle issues arises when a passenger is seated which makes me sound like crazy when describing it . Any suggestions???

I have the same problem. Fold up a black t-shirt or towel, cram it between the back of the seat and the cabin. You will be able to tell where to position the towel because there will be wear marks on the back of your seat where it rubs on the cabin.

I'm looking into a more permanent solution like gluing a foam strip to the back of the seat eventually.

Are you sure it's the seat and not the seat belt?

I have removed the hooks from behind the passenger's seat. That allows me to slide the seat all the way back against the panel, and keeps it firmly in contact. No more rattle.

As others have said, look into your seatbelt as well. Stick the chrome buckle into the plastic guide attached to the seat to secure it.

99% of the time mine rattles because of the seatbelt; I just click it into the buckle to cure the problem. The advantage of this method is that people look at you like your insane with an invisible passenger buckled in.

Thanx for the replies guys, me too at the beginning thought it was the buckle (my ex MX-5 had a special side pocket to slide it in when not in use) but it is the seat itself (of course I will try with the seat belt buckled up- better look insane than being driven mad by the noise!!! ). The curious thing is that when upright it still ratles in its own castings !!!!! is there any lever or nut to tighten up???

Now that you metion it what are the hooks behind the passenger and driver seat exactly supposed to do?? They don't seriousy expect us to put a hanger or coat back there do they??? Sorry guys but I am really upset by the deliberate absense of any storage place in the car, doors etc!!! I became really furious when I had to remove the passenger's door panel to fix another rattle and found out that there is so much space inside the door doing nothing while I'm trying to push my mobile in the minimal "net" pockets on my 2002-3 S2K !!!!! (I hear the problem was somewhat adressed in the 2004-5 models)

Hooks are for an optional back pockets cost about $50
