Default Passenger side mirror (aka "wing mirror") angle

I replaced my passenger door recently and was looking at the fitment/alignment from the front, when I noticed the passenger mirror (i.e. the housing itself) is angled more toward the car than the driver mirror. I thought I'd done something wrong, but after some browsing through my extensive S2000 photo catalog (and some S2Ki searches of course), I realized this is quite normal. It's just a design feature to enhance visibility from the driver's seat. (10+ years w/ the car and I don't recall ever noticing this!)

Here are a few photos for illustration. It's visible when looking dead-on from the front (or, less commonly, from above). All model years and all markets have the same feature.

An early '99-'00 LHD car:

My own car -- before door replacement:

and after:

A UK-market AP1 RHD car:

It's even shown in a US-market advertisement:

Here's a couple of AP2 Euro-market LHD cars:

And finally, an '09 UK AP2 RHD car:

[Note: all photos released publicly by Honda in various markets, except for the ones of my car of course.]

So, if you're reading this, now you too are forever sentenced to notice this asymmetry. Like a dead pixel on a computer display, it will gradually grow more and more annoying, until one day, hopefully, it will fade into the background and start to look normal again. You're welcome.

Cheers!
John

Yeah, but luckily its not that noticeable and I do believe most cars are like that today.

^Yes, apparently with Porsches it's quite distinct once you notice it.

great!!! So, the question now becomes how do we correct Honda's mistake. How do we make the mirrors symmetrical, I don't think I can drive the car now that I've noticed this.

^It's surprisingly annoying, huh? (Love the screen name, btw. )

I know we're all joking, but I suppose you could try to find a driver's mirror from a RHD car (or LHD if you're in UK, AUS, or JPN) and bolt it on; you'd have to keep your original wide-angle mirror surface... Not sure if the entire mount can be swapped; if not you'd need the entire RHD door shell and would need to swap wiring harnesses and interior panels too... But the point is:

IT...COULD...WORK!!!

I can't even see the difference. I'll have to go check mine when it stops raining.

it is a fact of life, just the same way one of our nutz hangs lower than the other.

I actually noticed this a few weeks ago at a meet....I thought my mirror was broken and had to look at 3 others before I figured it's supposed to be that way.... lol. It bothered me for a while, but now all I get pissed about is the freaking "A" sticker underneath it
