That is obsurd. That is unprofessional to be ripping people off with such a nice car. The sad thing is, is that people are still buying from these dealers! Why?? I know for fact that there are plenty of dealers out there that sell at MSRP. All you have to do is your homework and you will find your car. It worked out for me.

I'm from CA, and you can't find one for at least 3-4k over MSRP, and thats for a used one. New at dealers, their asking at least 38k and thats with no options, no mats, windscreen, wing, anything. You get lucky if you can find one used for 32-33k, so the demand in CA is probably a lot higher than the colder states. It took me two months to find mine for 32500, new, and that was only because the guy I bought it from said his company had purchased a lot of bonus cars for their employees, and the company was going bankrupt at that point. I looked at what he had, and there was a row of six boxsters, and a few S2K's!! That looked pretty awesome, but I went with the stook. I checked the Yahoo classified again a couple of days ago, and in the Bayarea CA, the cheapest would be a used one for 34k so its still ridicules over here. I myslef, almost bought and shiped one from WI, but it was white and I really wanted Silver so I held off on it. Luckily, a couple weeks later found the silver for 32500, with 60miles on it!! Fantastic.

I find it funny that the company had purchased "bonus" cars when going bankrupt.

i bought mine in the last week of dec.
from a dealer in the northeast bay.
they initially wanted 38k, but were
willing to get negotiated to msrp. i think
they let it go as they wanted to meet quotas.
i did ask them if they were going to let other cars go for MSRP, so as to make the info available here, but they declined. on the same note, scratch steven's creek honda, fremont honda, and capitol honda. i had absolutely the worst and rudest times with them trying to shop for a s2k.

Add the Santa Rosa dealer to the unreasonable list. I spoke with a salesman there in April, and said the amount I wanted to pay was 35k. Tha salesman said, in response to my direct question, that we were "in the same ballpark". I drove the hour N from SF with my checkbook and loan preapproval from Wells Fargo in hand, and the manager wrote insulting comments when I offered 1000 over that. At least in April, it was impossible to get a car here for list- I know- I called over 50 dealers all over the West.

Any dealer, in an effort to maximize his profits, will sell his product for whatever the market will bear. As long as there are anxious buyers willing to pay over MSRP, dealers will take advantage of them. Cold climes= MSRP; warm ones=MSRP+"Market adjustments" and forced options. Honda's limited distribution is as much to blame as dealer greed. If the dealers could get as many cars as they wanted, I'm sure they would probably sell them for under MSRP.

Add Anderson Honda in Palo Alto. The Salesman there told me that people were paying 70k for a stook, and that 38k with no options was a good deal!! Who was kidding, that was insulting my intelligence and I had to laugh at him for even saying something like that. Ridicules.
