Performance question
Hi all. I have a question about the performance or lack of from our S2k's. I don't often get on my s2k, I treat it delicately. Nice to know the power is there. However, I have seen and heard an S2k launch from an intersection and light up the wheels in first then second. Now I much prefer to save my expensive rubber but when I give my s2k the hammer I don't hear a anything in 1st, 2nd, and so on. Now is that just good traction or lack of power? I have even tried launching from 7k rpm's and dropping the clutch. (quit that quickly when I smelled clutch burning!) Just curious
Thanks

I think that it's lack of power combined with good traction.
With the Bridgestone S02s on my stock S2k, I couldn't get slippage. With a dodgy set of Goodyear Aquatreds, not only could I lose traction any time I wanted, I kicked in ABS several times, when I know that the S02s would have gripped. (I'm blaming bad rubber for the wheel spin, not any extra power, cos I didn't have any)
Anyway, a few mods later and on to Yokohama E100s. (IMHO better than the S02s) I can *just* lose traction dumping from 6000rpm.

Read the latest issue of Sport and Compact car on dumping the clutch. The drivetrain is just not designed for that kind of abuse. When they compared 3 different levels of tune in the S2000 they did all accel tests from 10 mph because they did not want to dump the clutch even in the test cars.
