Yes, with a/c on the car is slower. The ac puts a load on the alternator and the engine has to drive it. If you floor it though a/c should turn off.

I actually made an autocross run with a/c on once. It was a practice event but it was so hot that while waiting to make my runs, I'd put the top up and turn on the a/c to cool myself and my passenger. Then I forgot to turn it off. The funny thing was that I wasn't much slower. I definately felt less power and acceleration, but the lack of power made me smoother and kept me under control. So my time for the run was within tenths.

Don't quote me on this, but I'm pretty sure the a/c compressor is disabled at WOT. So, if you have your foot in it, the a/c's not going to make a difference.

I come from a GTI 1.8 T and with AC on, the car was an absolute dog..
My wife drives a WRX, same thing; AC on, car is lazy.
I was surprised and pleased how less noticeable the loss of power is on the s2k, with AC on.

Only really large capcity cars dont notice the effects of air conditioning on performance, on small engines, particularly naturally aspirated one's its quite very large.

the AC compressor disengages at anything above 6000rpm or so.

yes yes. with A/C on in my jetta, car is MUCH slower in response and acceleration. and really hard to keep the car moving on the hills with A/C on. so easy to stall the engine.

but in s2k, i haven't noticed much different yet.
but this annoying whistle sound it makes when i press gas when the A/C is on ticks me off.
