Thanks for all the insight guys, I've already gutted the entire interior of my car. I think something I left out of my OP was that I just prefer a simpler, cleaner car. I'm glad I took the initiative. To the guy directly above me, DO IT. Only if you don't plan on selling your car anytime soon. I will now have a small place to put groceries/shopping bags next to the spare tire, lol. Maybe even a subwoofer in the near future

For what it's worth I didn't plan on selling my car anytime soon either when I pulled it out but here I am less than a year later looking to sell it. I'd gladly pay what I sold the top for to have it back now. Too bad that won't happen. I think the newer the car the more trouble you'll have selling with no soft top. An early year AP1 probably won't matter as much.

For people that have their hard top mounted directly onto the chassis, where did you buy your rear mount brackets from? I ran into a problem where the soft top frame is welded together so I can't take it apart, and the forbidden usa's supplied bracket mounts directly onto the soft top assembly. Should I just order Izzy's custom race brackets?

You can use OEM hardware only 2 bolts from the catcher still line up but it works. Been like that on my car for 6 months.

Or you can buy cr side mounts for some crazy amount

I gutted my soft top and never looked back. I was a top down whore until my top got severely messed up. I wondered myself if it would hurt resale but honestly I don't care. I bought the S for many reasons but the convertible aspect really wasn't one of them.

For those that have gutted the soft top, what purpose does the area now serve as? I need some creative ideas!

It definitely adds some cargo space behind the seat. You can put a decent amount of stuff back there.

Drive around with the HT for about a year. If you decide you want the drop top, it's not too late. If you're happy with your choice GUT IT OUT! just my 2 cents..
