Pics - Track Day - Calder Raceway Melbourne
G'day All,
The Victorian group of the Honda Sports Car Club ran a track day at Calder park raceway in Melbourne last Sunday Mar 254th. Calder Park had both a traditional road trace (National Circuit) and a NASCR oval track. Our day was on the National Circuit. A layout of the tack can be seen at:

terminal speed on the main straight were:
200Kph

I though the top speeds were a bit different ... more like:
- S2000 with roof down = 197km/h
- S2000 with roof up = 207km/h
- S2000 with race tyres (and cambers) = 215km/h
- NSX = 220+ km/h
I spoke to the owner of the purple NSX and that's what he said ... somewhere in the 220s.
All, but the NSX I saw for myself.
ps. S2000 really impressed me with it's high limits, eaze of controlling the slides and amoung of speed from the car.. I was very impressed with the car on the track.

Hi DavidM,
Your figures are about right. I had a ride in the Red NSX and saw a 240Kph.
As for the purple NSX - I think he was doing 220Kph sideways at times!
It was a great day. Did you go to Winton ??? Calder is a great contrast. Calder and Wakefield are similar in being more technical.
Cheers

Hi Twok,
Then 240km/h for the NSX it is :-)
No, I've never been to Winton ... actually with the S2000 I haven't been anywhere else but this Caldar event as I've only had the S2000 since 27th Dec '00. Though, I've been to Sandown and Phillip Island at leats 5 times (with my prev car - '93 MR2).

Barry WY,
It would be a blast to see a Left Hand Drive S2 down in Aussie.
I would suggest that you pick up an S2000 rental. Hey now that I think of it that is what I am going to do for a next track day.
Cheers

You can bring in LHD - But there is a time period before you have to do a conversion.
I would suggest that with the strong US$ you could come down and just buy one for every day and for the track!
The old joke is that we were going to change all of Australia to LHD. Phased in - Odd number plates one week - evens the next !!!!
Cheers

Great photos Lex. Have to get myself a good digi camera one day. So where exactly are you going to get the insurance from for this rental Stook to take it on the track??
Barry, you can bring LHD cars into the country but a couple of provisos for you (I know from experience - I brought a Firebird Formula into Oz 7 years ago).
1. You will pay import duty on your car equivalent to 120% of the purchase price less 5% for the 1st month of ownership and 1% for each additional month.
2. You either get it converted to RHD or you don't drive it on the street. Conversion set me back $10k for my Firebird in 1994 - it costs more now.
As you can now see, the only LHD vehicle worth bringing into the country is one that is not originally manufactured in RHD.
Best to sell the Stook and buy another locally as you will never be able to sell a converted one for a decent price.
