After some rather creative efforts in finding an appropriate A pillar gauge to fit the '02, I came upon Autometer's part # 20428 ($25) which seemed to match up very well with the stock pillar. It's meant for a late 90's Civic but has the mold and surface texture that fits nicely with the S2K. I then decided on Autometer's Ultra Lite Pro Comp series because it has a silver face and outer shell (seemed to match nicely with the dash kit). I'm waiting for some required adapters (found out at the last minute) from Autometer to complete the project but should have them received by mid-week next. The two gauges cost me around $100 and look great. The dual pod even fit so the lower vent was completely unaffected. All that's left to ponder now is whether or not I should paint over the install screws or leave them as is (silver). Also, I'm having black chrome S2000 emblems put on the side so I figured I might as well spruce up the radio door with one of the chrome ones removed. The sides of the car seem empty without that logo that I've come to be so proud to own.
These are universal pod containers that screw into the stock pillar. The ScienceofSpeed unit is a molded plastic cover specificly for the S2000 that spans the complete length of the pillar.
Regardless, I like what you have done with your S2000. Nice
The gauges look like they are angled up too much. Do you have a problem looking at them? I used the Autometer Gaugeworks pod for the 92-95 Integras... they are angled a lot better.
I recently purchased Science of Speeds gauge pods.. can't wait for them to get in.
Russ, I see you have the same gauges that I'm contemplating when my SOS pod comes. Can you tell us something about where you installed the senders? Does autometer come with the appropriate fittings? Thanks.
Chris, I wouldn't begin to postulate this set-up is anything as "finished" as your offering (awesome work) but I was actually NOT looking for this when I came upon the pod in a parts shop and was just curious. I took it outside and was very surprised to find it actually fit pretty darn well. I thought, "what the hell...I'm running out of time before the first blizzard of the year" so I went with it. Thanks for the comments. XVIPER, I'm not sure WHAT parts AUTOMETER is sending me (my mechanic will let me know) but be advised these GAUGES from them...and I will assume ANY offerings from them, according to Autometer, will need some additional parts to complete. I'll nail down some part #'s and re-post when they arrive. Right now...the wires are tied-down, waiting for the additional parts required from Autometer to complete this. As for the gauges being angled up too much Henessey, I'm 6-4 and they fit perfectly for my visual angle, plus I noticed with the top down, the faces tended to reflect the sun effectively, as opposed to "whiting" out, though it may have been due to the time of day. I think this set-up is a nice alternative to those on a budget but for the "finished" look, SoS' offering is the way to go. For me, this is probably going to be one of my favorite mods when I finally get it done. I am always wondering why Honda didn't install gauges for such a singularly-minded sportscar. Weird.
Nice install......I ordered mine from s.o.s. ...i really think the pods
add such a nice touch to the interior....has a real Jet fighter sorta look. I am also thinking of going with the autometer gauges. That way when i have a problem i can pester X-viper with stupid questions!
