A few months ago I was in court and one of the cases before the bench involved a Pit Bull. In this case, the Pit had jumped the fence, gotten into the neighbors yard, chased their Fox Terrirer into what they called their "carporch" (which I think means "carport"), then dragged it onto their front pourch, and into their living room (by tearing the screen out of their front door) and was proceeding to tear the little terrier into bite size pieces. The entire family, except the head of the household, locked themselves into a bedroom to protect themselves from the dog, while the father tried to stop the attack. He tried yelling at the dog to no avail. Then he tried kicking the dog, to no afail. Then he tried hitting the dog in several places, including his head, with a baseball bat. The Pit never even seemed to notice, and his owner stood in the doorway watching, and doing nothing. Finally, the father ran into the kitchen, got a butcher knife, went back into the livingroom and started stabbing the Pit until he was laying lifeless in a pool of blood on his living room floor. Again, the pit bull owner simply stood in the doorway and watched it all, without lifting a finger to stop any of it. Both dogs died.

I found the courts decision so insane that I still can't get over it. The Pit had no history (other than three "rumors" of his killing other dogs) so was protected under what is known as a first bite law. The guy who's home was invaded was forced to pay the Pit owner for stabbing his dog to death, and was found guilty of cruelty to animals. To me, that makes Pit Bulls safer than our fubar court system and laws.

That said, some of the sweetest and most affectionate dogs I've ever encountered have been Staffordshire Terrier's (AKA, Pit Bulls). Any dog can be bread and or traind to be mean as hell, but never make the mistake of thinking that a dog's breed is the sole determinant of his personality and nature.
He probably didn't hit it hard enough.

Man I hate pitbulls, my friend has one, it used to be super nice, you could pet it and he would walk it without a leash. All of a sudden one day it turned in to a total pshcyo, it tried to eat me twice. ripped the arm off of my jacket one time. Idk why or how this happend, the dog knew me since it was a puppy, i used to play with it all the time. One day it just changed or something. Anyway its not the owners , people are allways saying this, but it is not true. These dogs have aggression problems and have been bred this way for some time. In fact in Denver CO, they are banned completely from city limits, due to the breed being involved in so many attacks on people.

quote from the comments on the page:

"Actually, the pit bull is not on steroids, it seems to have myostatin deficiency. It is a mutation that is found in both humans and animals that makes them have larger than average muscles. Unfortunately, if an animal does have myostatin deficiency, they will not live as long because all of their organs are the same size as a normal animals would be and soon their organs will not be able to work with all of that muscle."

Not necessarily the breed, its the training.

All animals have some inherent 'natural tendencies' - for example, a golden retriever or a lab tends to chew furniture, shoes, whatever, because it has been bred to. My ACD tends to chase thing around cause it was bred to be a cattle dog. Im sure pitts were bred to be fighters so it has that tendency. It can of course be traind out of a dog though, so it is indeed the training

Thats not a dog. Disgusting. I'd hate to have that as my "best friend". After chewing up my girl (S2000) I'd have myself some Korean Dog soup. I dont think muscles would taste good though. Haha Jk! But yeah that thing is disgusting and must die as a punishment. If it does that to a car imagine what it can do to anyone else IT doesnt like. A good ol' "10 miles away from the any civilization into the woods with a shotgun" should do the trick.

You all can say whatever, owner this owner that. The one thing I do know is in my neck of the woods all I ever hear about when someone is attacked is that the breed of the dog was a pit 9 times out of 10. I won't hesitate to kill one or use the stun gun if I ever find myself in that situation again. Any dog can be vicious but these animals are a bit more dangerous than a border collie.

Oh no, don't do that, don't do that. If you shoot him, you'll just make him mad.
